    Fair enough. :50:

No chance of signing Butland, even on a loan deal.

I'd be happy enough with Marshall.

I haven't seen enough of Schmeichel to make a fair assessment.

I suggested Smithies in another thread. Good prospect but seems to knock the ball out to opposition forwards too often when he makes a save.

I'm not too sure about Westwood or Lindegaard.

No chance of that happening then.

Stefanos Kapino at Panathinaikos is the perfect replacement.

I think Butland would be available in the summer on loan, he has just joined Leeds on loan until the end of the season. Agree with you about Smithies, but good sell on potential there I reckon!

Lindegaard depends entirely whether or not he prefers to sit on the bench at Man United and pick up a wage or whether he would rather less wages and be first choice at a club such as ourselves.

No doubt there are countless good GKs available on the continent, such as the Greek lad you mentioned, I just think we should look closer to home first!

Aye he'd be good, still the ideal scenario is keeping Forster.

    I would choose from:

    • Silvio Proto - Anderlecht
    • Jan Lastuvka - FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk

Think we could get these guys cheap and they wouldn't be on any great wages. Not bad records aswell.

I think we should be looking to Nice OGC for our next keeper. Either taking their first choice, David Ospina, or Joris Delle who they loaned out to Cercle. Both fantastic keepers and I don't think they can keep hold of both unless they do what Chelsea have done with Courtois.

And, of course, Stefanos Kapino at Panathinaikos. :icon_mrgreen: I'll just keep mentioning him on the off chance that Lennon or Park read this forum. :smiley-laughing002:

i know hes on a lot, but he's not had much of a look-in the last couple of seasons. he might just want to go somewhere that he can play regularly and start trying to to earn some more poland caps

im sure hes heard good things about playing for us from artur and maybe fancies an adventure in paradise :icon_mrgreen:

although, he could just easily take a contract offer from a championship team and disappear into obscurity like tomasz kuszczak

*, theres a blast from the past. I know the angle you are coming from, given his age and his career trajectory so far, he really should be biting at any good opportunity to play as a No.1.

How have Ospina and Delle been playing. More importantly would our chances of getting Ospina be?

Kapino, the only thing I know is that he was wanted by Arsenal and Napoli Inter (not sure which) I'm sure? Big clubs anyway, which is a good sign.

The age thing aswell is good in a sense as there is plenty of room to develop and he fits in with our model. But young keepers can be error prone.

Only seen this guy play against Porto this season but he was one of the main reasons why they won 1-0. From what I've heard he's been having a stormer of a season.

He's a good keeper. Hard to say if he is Celtic quality, as a big team GK needs to work less and better than a small team GK, but he's certainly doing the job for Académica. I like him better than the more known Ricardo. That guy was average at best, overrated 'cause he saved some penalty kicks against England.

Ricardo played 90' in all 20 league games Académica had so far this season and is often part of the pre list for the national team. Quality IMO.

That's an excellent point, although if we sell Virgil next window and keep Efe on he might have to work more :icon_mrgreen:

I've been wondering what are your thoughts on Portugals group at the WC? It seems very balanced, US are capable of that Uncle Sam * and Ghana should have been semi-finalists last time around.

I believe most portuguese people think the same I do: we're an above average squad with a tremendous player. C. Ronaldo always makes people believe things can work out for our national team. Struggling to qualify and then make a good campagain became Portugal tradermark in the last decade and therefore I expect something similar this year. Germany will take the 1st place and Ghana will surely give us an hard time battling for the 2nd. USA is the wild card, not sure what to expect from them.

Portuguese clubs started reinvesting heavily in their youth players and after some years in decline talents are starting to appear once again. B teams were created a couple of years ago as well, playing in portuguese 2nd division. The generation immediately after Cristiano Ronaldo and Moutinho wasn't that good but Ronaldo may have a shot of winning a competition in 2-4 years, with the help of William Carvalho, Bernardo Silva, Bruma, Gonçalo Guedes and all the wonderkids starting to appear. For now we can't really dream about doing more than we usually do: qualify in our group and then try to reach a late stage. Winning the all thing won't happen, Ronaldo can't do it all, but I fully expected them to overcome that group.

I've mentioned Ospina before on here. Quality keeper, would love if we signed him.

He was decent. Didn't have to do much in the second half.

Depends which USA shows up, Klinsman's team can range from Quarter final material to finishing 4th in the group, recently things have been good and he has had a long time to prepare, we have a good mix of talent and experience.
