As someone who has never not studied, this works for me:

1.) Switch off any unnecessary media - tv, internet, etc.
2.) Switch on classic FM if you like classical music. It is relaxing and it keeps you company when you are pulling all day/night shifts. Instrumental music works for me, but I cant study to anything with singing or the radio when people are talking.
3.) If it is dry formula you are learning then make silly sentences to remember the complicated equations. Today I was studying the Du Pont formula and I needed to learn the following formula: (Net Income/EBT)x(EBT/EBIT)x(EBIT/Revenue)x(Revenue/Av Assets)x(Av Assets/Equity). I came up with "No Easter Eggs Remain After Easter", where I add the first letter across each numerator and then the last E in the last denominator. I then shift each number to the previous denominator and it spells out the equation. It sounds daft but the more daft the better as that way it sticks in your head.
4.) Keep telling yourself that education is a privilege most people don't have. Don't get stressed and don't get down. Just recognise the task in hand and set about doing it. And enjoy it as much as you can.

    Good luck.

See when you do that creative writing exam for higher English, here's my tip:

There's always one which asks you to write a short story called this or that. Come up with a story beforehand which is about an author on a train trying to write a book, and have his book be called whatever it asks your story to be called. This way you can already decide everything that's going to happen and you can make it pure class, and apart from a few lines here and there linking the name of his book to your story if you can, it can be totally irrelevant to your title.

I mind telling my mate I was going to do that, and it turned out one of the questions was "write a short story set on a train".

Me glancing at him five minutes in:

Post it notes (the bright coloured ones). I used them to recap briefly each page of notes and found it triggered off reminding me of associating it with the more fleshed out answers. I also stuck the notes throughout the house.

Plan out your study routine(including a day off or a few hours away from it) Get it pinned up next to your bed, so when you wake up you can see what needs to be done.

Not sure if it worked for me but I recorded my self reading the notes, certainly got me to sleep at night anyway( I have a deep monotone voice).

Have a banana before the exam!!

There's no creative writing in higher. Only critical Essays.

Ah well ignore me then, must've been standard grade. Depressingly I've forgotten what happened in what exam because they were 7-9 years ago.

Makes sense actually cos I'm having flashbacks to the higher English exam. Othello, *shudders*.

    * murdery Iago. What a *. "Haply for I am black", "Where I the moor I would not be Iago" and something about a handkerchief is all I can remember. Well them and the beast with two backs and the wind instrument. Shakespeare was weird.

I think I used peppermint oil in some hot water. It really clears the head and helps you to stay concentrated in what you're doing.

Oddly enough I studied better with loud music going on in the background as it gave me something to tune out when I was working. If there was a particular thing I couldn't grasp I would write it down in order and keep writing the same thing until it was in my head.......nowadays you type everything

A change of scenery often helps. Me and my mates will sometimes go to a pub or cafe round the corner and just sit and work. Getting out for a while, having some different surroundings, can really make a difference.
Also, log off TalkCeltic (he says, as he uses TC to distract himself from revision...)

I can't revise. I can't do this *. I * hate marketing. Well that's probably not entirely true, I just * hate reading. Started revising a good time away from the exam, but did very little, now I have 5 days of revision left before my first two exams in different subjects but I just can't do it. I don't like uni one bit, but I can't go back to stacking shelves for the rest of my life. Think I'm in need of some hypnotherapy to make me believe i like reading and like uni.

Got 5 weeks till my exams start, 28th May to 6th June. Probably won't start revising for another 2 weeks. 3 Weeks should be enough for 4 exams... hopefully!

In those two weeks till i revise i have 3 essays to do though.

I also need to sort my sleep pattern out over the weekend. Can't keep watching the ice hockey, going to bed at 4.30am then getting up at 12/1pm as my exam starts at 9.30am.

I have exams in mid-May and I'm delaying serious revision constantly...... I'm confident I'll get through them though.

First exam is the 6th of May, the second on the 9th of May and the third on the 13th of May. Started properly revising today (done bits and pieces for the last two weeks). Just coming to the realisation of how much there is to do.

I tried revising yesterday in my flat but it didn't work at all, far too many distractions. Been in Starbucks all day today, and now in the Weatherspoons next door and it went much better. Still * * it though.
