He seems happier and more settled this summer. Hoping he's back to his best next season. Just worry that BR isn't keen

Good. I opened this thread fearing we may lose another midfielder.

I’d like him to play well rather than read his shadily translated Japanese interviews every few months.

Genuinely think we will see Reo back to his best this season which will be a great boost as we missed him so badly during his long injury absence last season as well as him never really hitting anything like his top form when he was fit.

His passion for soccer is incredible]
Hayashi Ryohei (hereinafter: Hayashi): First of all, thank you for your hard work during the 2023-24 season
Hatate Reo (hereinafter referred to as Hatate): Thank you.
Hayashi : Looking back, what kind of season was it?
Personally, I had a lot of injuries , so it was a difficult season, or rather, a frustrating season. Still, Celtic won two titles and won the league three times in a row. I also had the opportunity to play in the Asian Cup with the Japanese national team, and I've been getting more and more opportunities to be selected (for the national team), so I've been able to experience more things. It was a fulfilling season, but also frustrating...
Although Hayashi was out for a period due to injury, he played a key role as an inside midfielder towards the end of the season. You seem versatile enough to play in a variety of positions, such as inside midfielder, defensive midfielder, and fullback (SB), but which position do you feel most comfortable playing in?
I only played as a flag bearer SB during my time with Kawasaki Frontale. At Celtic, I only played in two games under Ange Postecoglou. So, when I hear people call me a SB, I personally feel like, "I don't do that anymore." Now that I have a lot of experience as an inside half, I think that's the position that I'm most comfortable in.
What kind of place is Glasgow, the city where Hayashi Celtic is located?
Hatate: Basically, it's not sunny. In winter, it gets light at about 9am and dark at 4pm. When you compare the food to Italy, Spain, or France, for example, I think there are some things that can't be beat. But there is a lot of nature, and next to Glasgow there is a city called Edinburgh, and the buildings are so beautiful that even just walking around a little makes you feel refreshed.
Also, the whole town is passionate about soccer, so I feel happy to be able to play in such an environment, as someone who goes there to play soccer. There's not much I can recommend about my private life (laughs), but I feel it's a great environment for playing soccer.
Hayashi: As a Celtic player, do people often approach you on the street?
Flag bearer : That's right. Everyone has a lot of passion for soccer. For example, if you go to a cafe on the day off the day after a match, they'll talk to you, and if the cafe staff are Celtic fans, they'll say something like, "You don't need to pay for the coffee, so just drink it." I think that kind of passion is really amazing.
Hayashi: There are many Japanese players at Celtic, including Maeda Daizen and Furuhashi Kyogo. Do you have any regular contact with them ?
Both Hatate Maeda and Iwata (Tomoki) have families, so they often spend their off-season with their families. So, they often spend their off-season alone, but when they go to the training field, they naturally end up talking together. Of course, they sometimes go out to eat together, so I think they get along well
With the new director, new discoveries have been made]
Hayashi : Let's talk about soccer. Celtic won the league three times in a row, but it was the season when manager Postecoglou was replaced by Brendan Rodgers. What was the biggest change in terms of tactics?
The biggest thing about Hatate is that under Ange, the first thing they did was to aim for the goal. They told us to aim for the goal as much as possible, but on the other hand, Coach Rodgers values the ball. Even in situations where we can attack quickly, the first priority is to keep the ball. I think that's the biggest change.
There are also obvious differences, such as fewer goals from crosses compared to the 2022-23 season. It was Rodgers' first year as manager, so it was a difficult season.
Hayashi : I also commented on Celtic's games in the Champions League, and when the manager was replaced, I felt that the team was a little hesitant. (In terms of team building) Did Rodgers try to approach the characteristics of the players? Or did he try to stick to his own game model? Which was it?
I think there is a strong sense that we kept the good parts of the past while moving towards what Coach Rodgers wanted to do. So, although we struggled at first, I think that as we went along, both the coach and we came to understand what we wanted to do .
For Hayashi's team, was it a season in which they gained confidence as the season progressed?
As a flag bearer team, we have some sense of accomplishment, but at the same time, there are also things we want to do more. Personally, I think the more aggressive and quicker goal-oriented football (in the 2022-23 season) is more interesting, but I also made new discoveries, including how to take care of the ball, so it was a good experience
I want to become a player who can complete things on my own]
In the 4-3-3 system, the three midfielders are Callum McGregor of Scotland as the anchor and Matt O'Reilly, who was not in the Denmark team, on the right. Personally, I think it's great to be in the midfield with such great players. What is your relationship with those two?
When I first joined Celtic , I was taken aback by the overseas players' "selfish" (in a good way) and "I'll do it" attitude, but as I played I began to feel that they were really good players.
Especially McGregor, our captain and anchor. He can run and work hard on defense. And yet he can carry the ball smoothly on offense and even shoot himself. O'Reilly is tall, can pass and score, so I feel that we are becoming more and more compatible as we play together.
Hayashi O'Reilly is left-footed, tall, and skilled with his feet. He can make through passes and carry the ball himself, so he's a really good player.
Hatate is a good player. Surprisingly, he watches (Celtic's games) (laughs).
Hayashi : No no, how many games do you think I've watched? (laughs) What kind of player do you want to be in the future? You play as an inside half, but do you want to increase the number of goals you score, or the number of assists you get? Or do you want to become a player who can fight on both offense and defense? What are your thoughts on that?
Flag bearer : I also watch Premier League and La Liga games, but I pay attention to Kevin de Bruyne of Manchester City and Ilkay Gundogan of Barcelona. They are not the ones who make up the midfield with their individual strength, but they are players who can achieve results such as goals and assists, and I am attracted to the fact that they can also act as a lubricant for the team and defend, like Gundogan. (In Europe) there are many players who can do something on their own, and I would like to become a player who can complete things on my own.
Which teams and players does Mr. Hayashi recommend for flag bearers?]
Hayashi: On the other hand, is there anything you would like to ask me? Is there any player you would recommend?
I know you've asked me to be the standard bearer , but is there anyone? Also, last season there were a lot of good teams, such as Leverkusen, Atalanta, Manchester City, and Arsenal, but which team do you think is the most interesting?
Hayashi : First of all, as for the teams, all the teams that Hatate mentioned are good teams. Others that are growing include Bologna in Serie A and Girona in La Liga, but the team I want you to pay attention to in the new season is Liverpool. Arne Slott, who led Feyenoord (until last season), has become the new manager. That manager is a really great commander, so I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of football he will build. The formation is basically based on 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3, so I think it will be easy for Hatate to imagine.
Especially since manager Jurgen Klopp has stepped down as leader and a new era is beginning.
The players I would recommend to Hayashi Hatate are, of course, Gundogan and De Bruyne, but another one is Nicolo Barella, who plays for Inter Milan in Serie A.
Flag bearer is a good player.
Hayashi also played an active role in Euro 2024. Another player who is not well known yet is Taiani Lijnders, who is active for the Dutch national team.
Which club does the flag bearer play for?
He is a member of AC Milan, but he is also a key player for the Dutch national team. He is a player who can play as an inside half, a defensive midfielder, or an attacking midfielder. I think he is a player who can represent the ideal play that Hatate-san envisions. He can act as the team's lubricant, and he has the calmness in front of the goal and the ability to score goals.
I'd like to keep an eye on the flag bearer .
This will be your fourth season in Europe. What are your goals for the future?
There are still many higher leagues (in Europe), so if I can challenge those leagues, I want to do that. If I don't aim for that, there's no point in continuing as an athlete, so I want to keep aiming high.
Among those, I would like to play in the Premier League, or in Spain or Italy, which I am personally interested in. As for the Japanese national team, the final Asian qualifying round will start in September, so I would like to gain more experience there. I felt a strong sense of pride in playing for the Japanese national team during the Asian Cup, so I would like to become a player who can stand on such stages more often.
So TL;DR is he thinks Glasgow is * and wants to play in England?
He was complimentary about Edinburgh's buildings, so maybe he's angling for a move to Hibs.
