Reo Hatate

Rodgers admitted he side has lost a chunk of the quality he craves with Hatate out long term. The midfielder is still getting scans but the early signs are it is a grade four tear – the most serious kind – which could rule him out of action until February at the earliest.

Rodgers conceded the playmaker would not be seen in hoops until after Christmas and Japan’s Asia Cup campaign at the end of January is also unlikely. The Northern Irishman said: “Without knowing exactly, it’s definitely going to be after Christmas before he’s back.

“Sometimes the hamstrings can be naughty, so it’s just a shame for him. It wasn’t great news. It was a stage four level injury, which wasn’t great. He had one towards the end of last season on the hamstring on the other side and he’s had a calf problem earlier this season as well.

“So this gives us a chance to investigate with him and run through every fine detail of it – because his calf and hamstring have happened early in the games. There are lots of things that can happen with footballers and how they work. So we’ll look at it and investigate every part of his training programme and what he does away from here... and see if we can help and support him.

“His season has been broken. He was starting to find that rhythm again in his training, getting into the team and looking exactly what I want from him. He was starting to perform, so to then break down is such a real shame for him and for us because he’s a very good player.”

Brendan Rodgers admits Reo Hatate is unlikely to be involved in the Asian Cup as the Celticstar continues his comeback from injury.

Hatate has been sidelined since overstretching his hamstring just minutes into October's 2-2 Champions League thriller with Atletico Madrid. The Japanese midfielder isn't expected to return until after the New Year, which would rule him out of the Old Firm clash with Rangers at Parkhead on December


Hopefully he’s back here by the end of that month. We’re judging that as we go. But he will be like a new signing for us

 

Does himself no favours with the new signing patter.

 

At this point we should sign another creative centre mid to take the pressure off O'Riley.

 

If it keeps him out the Asian Cup this is good news. Two weeks earlier recovering and a couple good performances he’d be away for 6 weeks or so.

We might manage to keep Maeda as well due to injury but I imagine they’d call him up regardless if he can’t play the start of the tournament he’s a key player for them.

But the more we can keep here the better.

Because right now we’ll most likely be without Kyogo and Oh deep into the tournament, South Korea and Japan being the two best teams. We have no other striker.

Hopefully abada is back. I quite like it when we play him as striker. He does a very good job.

 

Reo Hatate has been out injured for Celtic since the 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid in October.

The Japan international suffered a hamstring injury in the Champions League clash which has ruled him out of action until the New Year.

And Parkhead boss Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on the midfielder's condition.

He said: "[Hatate] is starting to move. We allowed Reo to go back to Japan to get some work in there as he was at the early stages but he has worked really hard there.

"He returns later this week which will be great and then we will assess him once he is back

 

Rodgers said he is back training on the grass. So likely not back in full training with the team but at least getting close.

Didn't Rodgers say after the winter break?

 

If he's not back for the Hun game we're better off nearly him being out till mid February. At least he won't have the chance of being injured again at the Asian cup. Ditto for maeda

Think as long as CCV is back, we should be fine up until then (after the winter break) but I am hoping for Maeda and Abada back soon. Again, I have no idea of the timeline.

Not great, but CCV is the second best defender we've had in at least 15 years. I think he's more important right at this minute.

Rodgers said both would be back for huns game. Also said Maeda slightly ahead of Abada.

Going off if that I'd expect to see Maeda involved on Saturday and Abada back for livi the following week
