I too would take Shaun Maloney in an instant. Him and McGeady would be superb on the flanks and Maloney's set-plays give us options with Nakas apparent demise.

I've mentioned Appiah before as a midfield general but we've not been linked to him yet this season so can't see it happening.

Jimmy Bullard would also boss our midfield and get goals but would he want to leave England if hes fighting for a place in the England team? I can but dream.

    Richard Dunne - *DREAM*

Peter Crouch - Again has England ambitions so highly unlikely.

Wayne Routledge - Sheer pace but he's only been linked to the Huns this season.

Jaaskaleinin to replace Boruc if he goes. Failing that I'd take Schwarzer.

Forget all these names being branded, first and foremost sort the main problem area, the manager. Then we can start to talk about signing anyone.

New manager, and sign some experienced players tp plug the problem areas. Then start bringing in our own youngsters. They are good enough (Cuthbert and O'Dea are better than Caldwell). Should NOT hav let Bjarnasson leave but there are others who can come in to the side given the chance.

cant see strachan rewarding a bitter tirade in the papers with a starting slot to be quite honest. berra for caldwell? i'll just leave that as a no

Lets look at this realistically. If we take the route of thought that Strachan will be gone and that we punt Boruc (£10M conservative estimate), Donati (£2.5M, if lucky) and a few of the fringe players; Killen, Doumbe maybe, Caldwell/O'dea (say £4M return on them), plus £5M for players from revenues, we could have around £17M+ to spend. A goalkeeper will be required (who can honestly say they think Boruc will stay?), a left-back, a quality centrehalf, £3M on Samaras, plus another striker. It's not a huge amount of money, when you consider how much goes on wages, but I think a couple decent signings, combined with the recycling of what we already have could sort us out. A new manager would see the potential in O'Dea and Riordan, give Gravesen another crack of the whip and wipe the slate clean for some of the others to start over.

agree that we should have a fortune to spend this season if boruc goes but not too sure about selling o dea, shouldn't we be looking to hang on to talented young players?

I take your point about selling players that could mean extra money to spend but I doubt Celtic will ever spend £17million again in one summer. The board is far too conservative for that now. The only way that could happen is if a complete overhaul is required which isn't the case this summer.

Even if Boruc leaves I doubt much more than £10million(if that) will be spent. Not saying I agree or I'm happy with this it's just a fact of our club just now.

Yeah, I think we should too, but it might be the case that they'll punt him regardless. I also pointed out that a new manager might see his ability and put him in the starting eleven. I think we actually have resources at the club, but they aren't being used. Naka is failing to do anything a on a weekly basis, yet is played regardless. All the while, Robson sits on the bench. I don't know what we bought him for. Sometimes I wonder if Strachan buys players as a knee-* reaction to their availability and then doesn't know what to do with them after they're here.

I know what you mean with that figure, but I'm talking about money to cover wages too. Brown cost us £4.4M face value, but in reality the deal is somewhere nearer £8M. Face value, I think we'll have in the region of £11M to spend, less £3M for Samaras. So around £8M for another striker, a left-back (although two of our right-backs can play there), a 'keeper and a centre-half. I reckon we're more likely to land some half decent bosmans, who'll command middling to high salaries.

The more I think about it the less chance I think we have of seeing too much money - even if Boruc goes.

    My cheeky wee prediction:
    Strachan budget: £6-7 million
    Other manager: £10 million.

    Apologies for outrageous speculation.

Your probably exactly right mate. The board seem to set a budget for the season and players being sold doesn't seem to alter greatly. The budget is probably already set and even if Boruc was sold for say £10million only about 2-3 million would be added to it.

doesnt really matter how much he has to spend.. its what he buys with it.
going by his history. only players in my eyes worth a game is.

    hinkel, naka, mcdonald, boruc, hartley

its a sad day when i need to think about what celtic players are worth the money..

another point, is everybody reluctant on boruc leaving end of the season. ???

Personally I would rather keep Boruc and * the £10-12 mill. But that kind of moeny in front of the boards face I fear they'd let him go. My bigger fear is he would go for less than that.

i've thought that for a while too, everyone will point to craig gordon and say if he's worth £9 million then artur's worth £15 million which is true but i have a feeling he'll go for less, british players are always overpriced
