    The Jam were never a punk band. Weller was never a punk, full stop. Weller was a mod from the age of around 13 / 14 which was about the time he started playing seriously. His influences were The Who, The Kinks, Motown etc. The only think Weller associated himself with the Punk movement was the energy and spontaneity of it....certainly not the music.

    As for what I prefer....as the great man himself said. I'm a mod and will always be a mod....you can bury me a mod!

    hardcore punk

    minor threat, gorilla biscuits, youth of today, black flag, agnostic front, circle jerks, 7 seconds, youth brigade, in my eyes, ssd, the teen idles, ten yard fight, etc.

    if anyone here knows what real hardcore is and has heard of and likes any of these bands, then i want to talk to you haha.

    Depends a bit what you define under hardcore punk. I do like bands such as Agnostic Front and Sick of it all, but I have to choose between them and bands like Rise Against who after time went for a "softer" approach, I choose the latter (although I really like their earlier, more hardcore cd's as well).

    Other punk bands I really like are Bad Religion, Pennywise, Anti-Flag... But I think you are not a big fan of these as these bands are definitely no hardcore.
