im backing wgs/the board.surely there must be more breaches of discipline from aiden than we have heard for the club to take such drastic measures publicly

You don't think it's presumptive of you to assume that everyone who voted against Strachan and the board are "anti-Strachan brigade"? I find it impossible to believe that the board and the manager would see mass disruption before the derby and ruling out our most talented player, through a self-inflicted decision, as something that could be a positive for the club.

    My 2 cents...

Everyone in favour of Aiden is either...

    • A Strachan-hater who thinks Christmas has came early with this story
    • A fan who can't look beyond the next game and have a wider view, and sees one match against Rangers as more important than the rest of the Strachan's reign.
    Everyone in favour of Strachan...

    • Has their * head screwed on. Backing a player instead of a manager would be detrimental to the team's behaviour and performances, and would undermine the manager.

And what about maintaining discipline within the squad?

Does that go out the window because we have a OF match coming up. Any player can act the fool and not get punished for it. What sort of message is that?

This is a far from ideal situation and I'm sure Gordon would rather not be faced with this at this time. Action obviously had to be taken and it was, this wasn't a rash decision, thought was put into it and approved by the board. No-one here knows the full story but surely the last thing on either the manager or boards mind was to inflict harm on the club.

Maybe it's been done for the good of the team, maybe McGeady's presence on the training ground will upset the build up to the upcoming games? We don't know for sure so you can't assume that his ban is bad for the club. The team matters more than one player!!

Again, I didn't say he shouldn't be punished if he deserves it, but by banning him from the squad, Strachan is cutting his nose off to spite his face. The punishment should be something which is solely detrimental to the player, not the club as well.

And maybe if my auntie had balls, she'd be my uncle. As far as I can see the decision to punish McGeady is the correct one, but the method of punishment is wrong. Keith Jackson's * must be red-raw with the amount of tugging it'll be getting just now. A huge daily ranker circle-* going into it's 48th hour. Anyway, I'll check in on this thread tomorrow. I had my own "McGeady moment" at work today and I'll need all my wits about me if I'm to defend my corner against the sleekit * who's tried to get me into trouble. G'night!

This "punishes" us for one game, and boosts the manager's respect and authority.

Ignoring the issue would punish the club for the rest of Strachan's reign.

Aiden * up, Aiden get's punished. The golden boy is not immune. If the brightest kid at school gets in a fight, do you let him off because he's the best? Even if you have a school-inspection coming up? No, because the schoolmates would think they could get away with anything and the lad would feel invincible.

    Discipline and order are crucial.

The board were involved and they wouldnt have taken a personal viewpoint but an objective one. Strachan would have been overruled if it was a personal vendetta but he wasnt and the board back the person that was in the right, the manager which the fans should be too. If MON had this problem, nobody would have questioned his motives or judgement

This is your opinion dempsey and it might be right,however---this is my opinion wgs goes to the board and tells them im implecating this punishment on aiden mcgeady,,back me or sack me,a few points make me think it goes more along these lines.

Theres no immediate transfer listing of mcgeady, which makes it clear the club wants to keep him.

Theres been no immediate statement release from the celtic hierarchy trying to defuse the situation.

And mcgeady's agents statement expressing mcgeady's surprise and dissapointment at the severity of the punishment,he only wants to play for celtic,he doesnt want to leave.

Obviously wgs was looking for a grovelling apology and mcgeady renaiged, hence wgs sanctioning, a punishment he believed would hurt mcgeady.

wgs has been very clever with how hes dealt with this situation and hes split the support right down the middle.

win against the huns and hes vindicated.

lose against the huns and hes vindicated because he attained the boards backing.

It doesnt matter what we say or what will happen wgs gets what he wants,he wins....

wgs' on a power trip and it is only going to be to the detriment of the club.

None of the answers really apply to me. I agree with fining the player but think a 2 week suspension is very harsh.

He must have been snorting charlie while he was dishing out the abuse.

    classic post.

    fully agree.
there are other ways to punish misbehaving players more constructively.
i think this will make things worse between the gaffer and mcgeady.
i believe the loss of tommy burns is now becoming evident...he was the buffer between the likes of aidan and gordon.
    that buffer is gone now.
this is an unfortunate outcome which i dont see getting better.
i believe the two people in question will unfortunately not be in paradise in a years time.
