That is stupid, season will already be underway at that point with the 2nd leg of the 3rd qualifying round only days before that and the final round to follow not long after. Why jeopardise all that and travel to the States and back for some meaningless (if money spinning) friendly. :31:

Mulgrew will have Ronaldo in his back pocket. :56:

Should be good preparation in between our CL fixtures.

i thnk the real madrid game will be good prep for the type of players we will come up against in the cl! Some of the bhoys might not have played against the likes of ronaldo etc and also good for the american supporters to go see the club!

Celtic have to opt out of an SPL fixture for the Real Madrid game on August 11. SPL haven't received request yet or confirmed it's possible.

It's not often you get to play against one of the world's greatest football clubs - so I can see why Real Madrid agreed to this friendly.

This has to be the most unorganised we have been with pre season in a while, 31st July will be our champions league qualifier and we need to be prepared for this, we need plenty of games between the start of July and then and so far there has not been one announced. Even if we done a tour of Spain, there are plenty good training facilities there and I'm sure plenty of teams would love to play us plus its not alot of travelling for the players, getting us used to playing in a good climate.

the traveling thing is a poor excuse imo with the developments in sports science our players shouldn't really be feeling the symptoms of jet lag for any great time if at all

A wee pre season warm up match against the New England Revs would be fantastic :icon_mrgreen:

Ajax would be a cracking wee game. Only a short hop to Amsterdam as well. Sounds more manageable than a long haul to Philadelphia.

    From London, Ontario1:50:

Anyone interested they are trying to get a GB section going. I have spoken to a bunch of people (well, tweeted them!) and sections 126-132 are for this group. Get your tic's there if you can.
There will be updates on activities for the weekend posted here: http://iceltic.net/

Phillie put on a great show for the Man U game a few years back. Shane McGowan and Chalie and the Bhoys at the pub and shuttles running back and forth to the game. Cant wait!
