Celtic's long wait to appoint a new manager is set to end this week as Eddie Howe finally prepares to put pen to paper on a Parkhead deal.

Record Sport understands club bosses hope to begin the big rebuild in the coming days with top target Howe the headline appointment – almost two months after the Englishman’s first meeting with billionaire shareholder Dermot Desmond and incoming chief executive Dominic McKay in London

McKay may also unveil a new director of football as part of a major restructuring in the wake of a catastrophic campaign which saw former boss Neil Lennon shown the door in February after a miserable run of results wrecked his hopes of securing a 10th successive title.

While well placed sources have told Record Sport an official announcement will not be expected on Monday, it’s believed McKay hopes to have Celtic ’s ducks in a row before the end of this week.

We revealed earlier this month that Howe’s position would not be officially rubber-stamped until after the fate of his former club Bournemouth was sealed in the Premier League promotion play-offs.

It’s understood he wants to bring coaches Stephen Purches and Simon Weatherstone north from the Vitality Stadium as part of his Celtic backroom team and both men are now free to focus on their own futures following a semi final defeat over two legs against Brentford.

McKay has also been closing in on a director of football but it’s believed the appointment of a manager has been the club’s priority

can understand not wanting to be associated with the shambles this season but with kilmala i think it shows that someones calling shots , qualifiers 1 and 2 should be straight forward so technically gives us an extra 4 weeks prep , i think there will be 3 or 4 signings within first few weeks of june another 2 or 3 for the 3rd qualifier and and then maybe another 2 or 3 after that. The first 3 or 4 will be the freebies ( smith , king , mccarthy maybe ) have a sneaky feeling ajer and edouard may be asked to stay for the qualifiers and be granted transfers close to the window closing

Aye can see a few players straight in the door that will be Howes version of Sinclair to Rodgers. Reliable, willing, good standard.

Aren't the qualifiers going to be tougher this year though? Aren't we playing against some decent sides in the first rounds?

Aye was a matter of time really plenty of managers have waited to get paid out by old clubs before starting, he will of been working in the background. An exciting appointment he is an excellent young manager with bright ideas, I just hope he gets full control of everything he needs football wise and the money to spend on rebuilding us, but for * sake don't be bringing * like Steve Cook here pls Eddie.

Still gives me the fear. Defo a step up from the usual red imps effort.

It's been a tough season, plenty of folk still peeved to say the least, but I'm trying to get my mind back on the positives

There’s no positive to be taken from a 3 month rudderless coasting period when the rebuild is as big as ours is going to be.

The positivity will come when the structure is in place and we’re making moves in the transfer market to rectify the wrongs of last season!

He was never taken it until the summer. The board obviously thought he was worth the wait

Half the job done, with the mind of someone like Howe taking the helm.

His wanting to analyse everything will see an almost instant improvement in player performance.

Then hopefully, with a few clever defensive signings, domestically we will be winning the league.

    Who says we aren't?

There's plenty positives that our new manager's working behind the scene's, taking 6 week's to look at our whole behind the scene's operation month's ago and what needs doing..

Clearly been some kinda contractual holdup/backroom staff wait..

Everything we know about Howe is his attention to detail is number high on the priority list, so we're to honestly believe with our rebuild that he's just sitting doing no a lot and deciding whether he wants the job still? No chance..

Our number 1 target is coming in and will have been sounding out and doing plenty already..

Folk who think he's been twiddling his thumbs for 3 months catching up on netflix and some Disney + don't know howe. The entire back setup will be getting changed for the moment he walks in. Players are off on holiday so in reality the announcement means nothing. I wouldnt be surprised if the players haven't already met him even via Skype or something before going off on holiday hence punting ntcham etc.

Having him not announced probably allows him to work silently with no media circus aswel. He will be here "officially" this week but I bet unofficially he's been here a while.

We go into the 2nd round of qualifying. We could face Rapid Vienna, Galatasary, Sparta Prague or the Danish runners up (Brondbu, Midjtyland or Copenhagen). None of those are straightforward as we have seen Copenhagen and Sparta absolutely ragdoll us over the past 18 months.
If we ask Eddy to stay then he won't put effort in, he won't risk injury and with the Olympics I'm not sure he will be able to play anyway.

But now, it looks like that might not be the case after all. While speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast and as reported by HITC, Ian McGarry provided a worrying update on the long-running saga:

“We understand that their pursuit of Eddie Howe is becoming a source of great frustration for Eddie Howe and the incoming chief executive Dominic McKay, and Duncan it’s not surprising that they should look for a plan B, given that Howe has had more than three meetings with Celtic about replacing Neil Lennon, and he’s yet to commit. He could have signed a pre-contract, which he hasn’t done.

“Celtic’s executives are becoming very impatient now with regards to what Howe’s intentions are. We’ve reported that Howe would prefer to stay in England and he’s hopeful that the Crystal Palace job will be his.”

Pure conjecture, there’s every likelihood nothing is happening behind the scenes at all.

In fact, there’s not a single bit of genuine evidence he’s even going to be our manager.

I think we would all like to think that Howe has been working behind the scenes, but the reality is, if he is still not 100% committed to taking the job on, and we don't know either way, then why would he have been putting in hours of work for a job he may or may not take. For all we know, he might still be waiting to see if he gets an offer from a Premier League team.
