Headline in BBC, setting us up for a fall.

    Seen it before.

    Pardon my pessimism.

I'd take the guy from Salzburg he's an upcoming coach with a growing reputation. We want someone on the up not someone who's best days are behind them.

Where I do think this is an interview being blown up to mean a lot more than it does, what appeals to me about Marsch is two things.

    1. He is used to having to develop players and done so with a number of good prospects. He is also used to managing a squad where your best players may move on quite quickly and therefore succession planning is key, something we have been atrocious at.

    2. He has learned under Rangnick, who would have been a dream appointment as either Manager or DoF. Having had this experience he would bring valuable insights as to what we should be looking to do to operate as we are looking too.

It was good whilst It lasted. Back to hoping it's not Keane or Kennedy.

Desmond, Lawwell, McKay etc won't have a clue who Marsch is. He'll be nowhere near the job, even though we should be testing the waters with a serious offer. But we don't have that ambition.

In the past 20 years we've appointed Barnes/Dalglish, MON, Strachan, Mowbray, Lennon, Deila, Rodgers, Lennon.

With the exception of Deila, who was brought to our attention by Man City, that's an incredibly narrow scope. Basically the criteria is 'worked in or known about in England'. Even the high profile success like MON and Rodgers, or the previous high profile links like Benetiez are only known because of what they did in the EPL. That's a scandalous lack of vision.

There are high quality professional modern tactical coaches out there, we just don't bother looking.

We'll just give it to some * who 'knows the city... and we all know how that turns out.

    Sounds like Marsch is fishing.

And not for an actual approach from ourselves.

    A. It's entirely disrespectful to be talking up a job whilst you still contracted to another club, it's smacks of unprofessionalism and egotism. Something we've certainly all had enough of.

B: Building something new and special is a prerequisite for our new manager. But Celtic fans will NOT accept surrendering a title again while we get our act in order. His winning isn't everything patter was a massive red flag for me.

C: If reports are to be believed, more than two established Bundesliga clubs are sniffing about. Famous name or not, we just can't compete financially. So if he's using us as accelerant to kick-start offers he can get a * slap.

D: If he is indeed genuinely interested, there's nothing to stop his reps making a tentative, above board advance. There's absolutely no need for him to start flaunting his CV during a presser. If a Celtic manager pulled that *, even if he was running his contract out, hed be labelled an ungrateful *.

    For me, right now.

    * no

    Somethin stinks.

I'd take anyone who has holidayed in Salzburg let alone the manager of Red Bull Salzburg.

His comments about the structure etc. Make it seem to me he’s not really interested and knows how out of date our system is.

My thoughts exactly, imagine him managing us and him saying he’s honoured at an EPL club being interested

I’d still take him though :56:

I can get that, but at the same time, from what I've just read up on him, he's the sort of manager we want to chase.

Specially when you realise who he's worked under and the job he's done in his short time.

He would bring a professional attitude and a focus on fitness and proper analysis. Modern approach and a winning ability.

I think when it comes down to the comments about not winning every match (or whatever it was he said), we need to remember also where he has came from and how different Celtic and Scottish football is.
Even in Austria where Salzburg are the top dog, they still aren't expected as much as we are to win every single game.

We hear that from players any time they come, that they don't realise the pressure.
Not gonna judge the guy too harshly on that one.
Although I do agree with the points about touting himself while at a club still.
I presume his contact is openly running out this summer? Would be the only smidge of reasoning to be so vocal.

Alas, even if it's not this guy, his comments should wake the board up.
There are managers out there, with zero connection to Scotland, let alone the club, who actively still see Celtic as a big job. Even if the comments are hollow and designed to tease other clubs, he's used the Celtic name to big it up, he's not used Aberdeen or some other no mark.
There is interest in the club from further afield than Jack Ross or Kennedy.

You’ve read it wrong. Everything else is enthusiastic Americanism, the only sentences that matter are these:

“Would we have similar ideas in how to build it the right way, invest in the academy, invest in young players and create this development process that I'm talking about? And not just focus on winning.

Obviously I know that when you're the coach of Celtic, winning is the most important thing."

The rest is fluff relating to his longstanding argument that options were limited as a coach from the US, and that he had to show that he could dominate Austria before he’d get any kind of look even from a third division Scottish side who’d rather recycle some former Championship player who doesn’t believe in modern sport science.

Jesse Marsch the Red Bull Salzburg coach has shown a little bit of interest in the Celtic job. Red Bull Salzburg play brilliantly entertaining football and winning football. If there is any chance at all of Celtic getting this guy they should be pulling up tree's to at the very least get him in for a interview, no doubt the board are instead looking into the availability of Jack * Ross and his like.

I have a horrible feeling you're right and if that is the case then our troubles run a lot deeper than just getting rid of Neil Lennon and Peter Lawell. We all love Desmond's millions but his parochial way of thinking is stifling us big time. The fact he tried to appoint Roy Keane as manager previously says it all, I honestly believe he would appoint Keane now if it wasn't for the negative reaction it would have on season ticket sales.

Surely people don't actually think that Jesse Marsch is realistically coming to Celtic? :43:

It’s been clear for a while that we’ve been operating a ‘jobs for the boys’ policy, but it’s amazing how prevalent it seems to be across football.

You had Collins recently call out some Sevco guy for never having played the game. He basically suggested he couldn’t possibly be responsible for identifying players to sign because of that.

You can see the clamour from the press and ex-players to bring in the likes of Keane as well, a s then there’s our links with Lawwell’s boy at City.

It’s all incestuous as * and I’d prefer us to move away from it entirely.
