    Not taken from the Irish. The Irish moved over and brought their customs which mixed with the Pictish culture.

    I'm fairly sure that when there was a Scottish cultural revival in the 1800's they basically adopted what was similar to Irish culture at the time, this being because most of the native, original Gaelic-Scots were wiped out in the 1700's or fled, and their traditions weren't well documented.

    They presumed that the Gaelic-Scots were similar to the Irish, and therefore had similar customs. After all, in the 1800's, people from the Highlands were discriminated against in a similar manner to Irish Catholics, being known as Irish in all but name.

    Not sure about wiped out and fled.

    The Highland Clearances would have had an impact, completely * a whole way of life.

    Also post-Jacobite Risings maybe diluted a lot, banning of tartan etc. It’s certainly an interesting topic :50:
