A modern day legend, you can bet your balls on it however a legend like the likes of stein, McNeil, jinky, Larson etc.. He falls short of it for me however if we do another treble this year with brown the driving force again and if he lifts 10iar, then yes he can stand with the greats. A few more seasons to go and well see.

No, a great servant, what constitutes a legend?

For me it's one of the best players to pull on the Jersey, he's hardly anywhere near that.

His achievements are brilliant with the club.

I go back to the Tommy Burns example then, is Tommy not a Celtic Legend?

Yes easily, and for * sake don't even compare both players in ability, Tommy Burns in his Celtic career probably made as many bad passes as Scott makes in 1 game.

My idea of a legend is probably a bit different, like world class that gets banded about too often.

Listen for me my fav player of all time at Celtic is Lubo, I don't even know if I can say he's a legend.

Probably Henke is the only one in recent times.

    I'd agree with this.

I think it comes down to your own preference. I always felt he was not the best in terms of technical ability but I think his other attributes allow our more technical players the space and confidence to play.

Every team wishes they had a Scott Brown.

    Definitely a legend for me.

Read this thread back again, and I'm even more leaning towards legend than I was 2 months ago.

What a difference a couple months reflection on the season just gone makes.

Still got that niggle at the back of my head though. Will he be here for ten? Should he be judged on that? He has certainly done the majority of the work for it, so as a captain, it is his (if we get it).

What could Scott Brown possibly do though that is realistic enough, but also exceptional to cement legend status? Naturally lead us to a European final, but then the whole team would be talked about highly as well.

    See us to ten?

The first back to back treble captain?

A tommy burns style charitable commitment to the club? (for me, there is a fear still that come the end of his career, if he doesn't do much else for us and he goes back to hibs to be a coach, it would feel a bit disappointing).

A proper passing of the armband to Tierney!? (practically saw that the other night)

I'm rambling now. But honestly in my head he is 99.98% there.

Of all the players since tommy burns, only Henrik is a legend, undoubtedly, but Brown is the next to be added.

It's fun to go back through the various Scott Brown threads on this forum and see how often he's been slagged or written off by so many people. He can't pass, he has a Hun tattoo on his leg, he tries harder for Scotland, he can't shoot, he's useless, he's too injury prone. The list of reasons why he wasn't good enough for Celtic was quite extensive. Surely now all the doubters can finally see they were wrong.

He had a rough start at Celtic with his sister dying during his first season here but I was always a believer in him. He had shown himself to be a good player at Hibs and he was only going to get better once he grew into the Celtic jersey. He's been a cornerstone of the team for years now and we'll have a hard job replacing him when he finally goes.

Him and Scotty Sinclair are my two favourite players in the current team.

He seems to take a real interest in our youth development leading me to believe he will be with us long after he is finished playing if he is given the chance. Perhaps a future managerial great to add to his achievements as a player

So Tommy Burns is amongst the best players to pull on the Hoops ability wise, according to your argument? Cos I think even Tommy himself would have disputed that.

    You said;

"No, a great servant, what constitutes a legend?

That's not Tommy Burns. Tommy Burns is unquestionably a legend. So I was asking how it squares up with your definition.

No doubt in my mind that he has already achieved enough to be classed as a club legend.
