He was obviously not speaking literally when he said everything is invested/spent. For a business not to have reserve cash on the books/accounts would be suicidal. There is other things to attack him for but not that statement ffs.

He's very slick I'll give him that. The well spoken man in the expensive suit says we cannae spend money so it must be true!

It doesn't wash with me anymore. Neil Lennon walking away from the club was a real eye opener for me. To walk away from Celtic, especially when he didn't have another job to go to, speaks absolute volumes about what's going on behind the scenes.

The overriding feeling I have after watching that today is that we are not being told the complete truth here. The trust between the fans and the people running the club has been broken. Some folk have obviously been pacified by what Lawwell's said today but I'm sure there's many more like me who think it was nothing more than a pre-rehearsed set of answers that told us absolutely nothing. Lawwell can leave the club anytime he wants as far as I'm concerned.

What was it he said about Lennon leaving again? A "sad ending" or something?

Yep, either he was bullshitting then, he's bullshitting now or he was being genuine back then but it turned out they had badly misjudged the financial impact Rangers' demise would have. In other words either he lied then, he's lying now, or he badly * up planning for like post-Rangers and has made up the shortfall through selling Lenny's team out from under him.

He's clever the way he puts things, though.

Similarly either he lied back in the summer (Deila was our first choice) or Mjällby is lying (Larsson was approached and turned the job down after speaking with him and Lenny).

I'm really confused here now and don't know what to think.

Main things that have gone wrong for celtic this year:

1.Deila was appointed way too late.Neil Lennon didn't leave out of the blue, he must have told the board he was leaving ages ago.
2.Barely/No Investment what so ever in the squad. This team is still in effect NL's team
3.poor pre season , poor Match fitness have also contributed to our Downfall in the CL this season.

because our club ran on debt like all other clubs. We all need to remember that after our 1st CL group stage campaign, we paid a bunch of our debt off and came out and basically bragged that we are debt free. Now imo were just equmulating cash so we have a healthy balance, which I believe we probably do. Then PL gets in a coach thats known for developing players and utilizing the youth aspect of the club. If we can keep producing young prototypes on a consistent basis, we can eventually sell them for the big buck buys like were getting for players we buy for cheap from other countries.

    things will work out.

I jst really hope PL gets a couple more players in.

Lawwell pretty much stated what we already knew and that his whole 6-8 million pound signing line in January was a lot of rubbish. Club has no intention of putting in the kind of investment the fans demand for all the money we put into the club. As a result the club has suffered on the park and inevitably off it as well, with the loss of CL money. He just doesn't have a scooby about how to take the club forward and seems resigned to us being merely an average size fish in a small pond whom might scrape into the champions league now and again thus giving us a chance to market and sell our prize assets and further reduce fan interest and starve the club of its lifeblood. Truly inspired from Mr Lawwell. Time to go and go quick!

    Just read his latest statement.

He is obviously a Celtic fan, he cares about the club LONGTERM, and is aware of fan criticism. His family members are also aware , which think must hurt them as they know him better than we do.

I think he has been pretty upfront about things. Perhaps if he and the board backed the fans more ie when trouble kicked off in the Dam, standing areas, songs at our games... then he would be backed more by the fans

I have no doubt he is a very good thing for Celtic. I want him here longterm but i also want the team improved... like many others i will give time to see the improvements but please stop with signing players when it's too late... this happens far too often.

We probably have on of the best boardrooms in the football world... we are stuck in a backwater but CELTIC FC can lead the way in changing the fan experience... we pay the money not the council or the polis etc .... LISTEN to those who pay your salary and you will reap the rewards.

Strachan didn't run on debt and neither did Neil Lennon in his first years where he was given money.

So how much money is stockpiled then? What is our net profit in the last 3 years?

You'd have to be incredibly naive to believe anything he say in my opinion. He's a proven liar.

    I'm not picky.
I watched the interview with him on Celtic TV and one thing I'm wondering is where all the money from the last 2½ years has gone. He says that there's no stockpile of money, and it's all been invested, but where exactly has it been invested in?

Two seasons ago we probably got about £25m from our Champions League run. £20m in selling Wanyama, Hooper and Wilson. Last season, while not as much, we would have got about £15m - £20m for the Champions League. Then so far this season there's £11.2m from selling Watt and Forster. So that's anywhere between £70m - £75m, so where's it all gone? Transfers in from last season were about £11m, so that would be covered by the Forster & Watt sales. This season we've spent nothing on bringing anyone in, and as there was already plans to re-do the area around Celtic Park, that's roughly £60m.

I can understand investment, but are the Board and Lawwell trying to tell us that we can't afford about £5m for a player of decent quality? I think I smell it little bit of

A £5 million player would also cost at least £1.5 million a year in wages which then means other top earners will want to match them. It isn't as simple as you are making out.
