He should have stepped in when Lawwell's wages and bonuses were going up, all this whilst the team on the park was a complete * shambles.

Yes DD is the boss....PL answers to DD and other shareholders....i agree PL can be a * but you do not get to where he is without being a bit of a hard nosed *...what i cant under stand is why all the rage towards the guy when he is not even in charge.
He runs the club day to day but he,like all people employed follows guidelines set down by the top dog and that guy is DD.
If we should be angry at anyone its DD.
We can sack PL tomorrow...but will the new guy do as he is told by DD or will he be some CEO superman who tells DD and share holders to go * them self and start spending 20 million a window.......i think we all know the answer.
We want change then lets change what matters and not some yes man that will be replaced by another yes man.

    If only DD wasn't Irish.:fear:

What the * has DD being Irish got to do with it, he is still capable of being a * aswell, yes he has oversaw the downturn of the squad with Lawwell being the main protagonist, but he also knows when to step in and make big moves when needed, now is this right of course not, he should be taking a more hands on approach a lot more with regards to the squad and not letting the board think the club is theirs, he knew if big changes weren't made in the dugout and on the field then not even the tribute act turning up would fill the stands.

So let me get this right...DD set out the new guidelines for spending cuts and PL did as he was instructed but PL is the main protagonist....* sake.
I hope we sack PL...i really do because maybe then people will see with the lack of change from the new CEO that the CEO is not the problem at celtic....its * la la land in here.

And all the while Lawwell's wages and bonuses were rising, atleast we agree Lawwell should go he is a * *, he is the same guy that said give them enough rope to hang themselves about the Green Brigade, well I think he has had enough rope himself.

Well who gave him the wage rise and bonuses...i doubt it was himself.
But i think the GB thing is the main reason people have a problem with him, plus other things and that is fine,i just think if we are * off with how the club is run then we need to start aiming our anger at the right person because PL is not the one.

Lawwell and other board members treat the club as if it is their own personal plaything, I have already said Desmond is a bit of a * have I not, but if it was not for him stepping in at certain times i.e. Interest free loans and sanctioning certain signings then things could be a lot worse, my main problem is Lawwell talking about working within budget given our market yet he is paid more than some Premiership CEO's, yes I know Desmond and the board need to approve this but are we really getting our money's worth as paying customers, for the last 3 years I would say not even close.

PETER Lawwell is the best chief executive in European football, according to the man who used to run Scotland's top-flight.

Roger Mitchell not only endorsed the Celtic chief executive after the Scottish champions posted profits of almost £19million on Monday, but can envisage Lawwell and Brendan Rodgers putting down such secure roots that the future of the Ladbrokes Premiership will be green for years to come.

The former SPL chief executive says that Lawwell has done his job so well off the pitch, that Celtic will definitely win a record ten titles in a row. However, Mitchell believes that if Lawwell and Rodgers want to leave a real legacy, that Celtic’s name could inscribed on the trophy for the next 20 years.

Mitchell oversaw the birth of the SPL in 1998 as its first chief executive but if the landscape of the domestic game has now changed since those heady and days, he is comforted by the fact that the club he supports, Celtic, is swimming against the tide as the 52-year-old watches from his current home in Italy.

The remarkable £61.2m turnover from the first six months of this season, thanks to the injection of Champions League revenue and increased season ticket sales at Celtic after Rodgers took over as manager last June, is tangible evidence.

It is the payback, according to Mitchell, for Lawwell’s sensible running of the club since he took the role in 2003. More importantly, Mitchell no longer sees Lawwell being poached by a wealthy English club because there is a chance of creating Celtic’s greatest-ever legacy.

“I think Peter Lawwell is now at the point in his life where he can see things differently and he has the chance to really leave an important legacy at Celtic,” said Mitchell. “And I am convinced that legacy will be 10 in a row for the Celtic fans.

“If Peter Lawwell and Brendan Rodgers stay at Celtic Park, then I cannot see any other team winning the Premiership. They could close it off for Celtic for the next 20 years.

“For me, Peter is the best football chief executive working anywhere in Europe. And these new figures from Celtic show that.

“It is not just my view. Recently Barcelona’s hierarchy made positive comments about Peter because of his work with the European Clubs Association (ECA), which Peter is on the board of.

“When Peter took over at Celtic in 2003, it was a different business model Celtic had just reached the Uefa Cup final but Peter knew that was not sustainable. He had to make changes. That was not easy. Fans have expectations, especially when you get to European finals, but Peter had to change Celtic’s financial model without Celtic stopping being successful.

“He turned them into a selling club and downsized the wage bill but managed to keep Celtic competitive on the pitch. They qualified for the Champions League, more often than not, and with different managers.

“In my day at the SPL, Celtic would have got between £2m-3m from domestic television revenue, which is pretty much what it is now. The EPL clubs would get £20-40m then. That was ten times our TV deal. Now the EPL clubs get £120million, that’s 50 times. That is why the Champions League money is so important to Celtic.”

If England is the Promised Land for players and managers, the same has to be true for a chief executive. Yet, Mitchell feel Lawwell will be immune to any lure from a wealthy EPL club.

“There was speculation a few years about Peter moving to Arsenal,” recalls Mitchell. “When you sit on the ECA as long as he has, you get noticed.

“I am sure Peter has had many offers but he’s a Celtic man and I am sure he wants to make this club a great one. With Brendan Rodgers as the architect of the team and Peter running the finances, I am sure if they gave themselves a five-year plan they could the club into a top European one.

“I actually think the chance of Peter leaving Celtic is smaller than at any time in the last 14 years. He has a good manager in place and both can leave a historic legacy at Celtic.”

Nice article ,and I agree , we all love a moan when things are not how we want them , but the work carried out behind the scenes must be massive, it looks like we as a club are trying to get to the next level where cl participation is the norm , and it's a mindset that br has spoke about , let's not be happy just to qualify , we should expect to , and build on getting better results while there .

I wonder if his salary will exceed Brendans now as some viewed Peter as the most important person at the club, considering he was paid a reportedly double of NL salary and 3 times RD, I myself have doubts but he will exceed £1m in this financial year that's a stone wall certainty!

He has annoyed many people in the past and some will probably never take to him, however I can't help but feel that if he left it would be a case of you don't know what you've got until it's gone.

We had to downsize though and we had to become a selling club. Some of our decisions in the transfer market have been poor and there is an element of the board not being ambitious enough. But is it all Peter Lawwells fault? Isn't he given a budget that he has to adhere to?

Don't get me wrong, He's been * with his treatment of the fans at times and has been rightly criticised, but in terms of his financial management, I think he's superb.

Also kept us surviving because we've spent within our means.

Don't get me wrong, I don't love the guy and I do think we could have spent a bit more than we have over the last few years. But look what happened - the old club across the city spent more than they had and ended up dying. We're now in an incredibly strong position on and off the pitch with a fantastic manager and a promising squad.

Everything has worked out just fine.
