Just recalling some of the threads a few years ago on here .. people , myself included , were giving peter lawwell and the celtic board a hard time , over their transfer budjets . 'Were not spending enough', 'The board needs to go' .. 'the board are to blame ' etc etc . Looking back on it now , how foolish were we , considering the mess rangers are in now. The board obviously were aware of their restrictions with transfer dealings , not threatened by rangers spending big . They invested alot of time in the scouting system overseas and youth system .. to find 'uncut diamonds' as lawwell put it.
At times like this ... over the past week , all credit must go to our board and managing directors over the past 8 - 10 years . Hats off to them for keeping this club financially secure . Thoughts??
Discuss Peter Lawwell and the celtic board .. credit due! in the Celtic Chat area at TalkCeltic.net.

Thats what they get paid the big bucks for,to put numpties like us in our place.
-
They have made mistakes but they have always ensured the club was in a safe financial position.
Credit where it's due indeed. -
End of the day, these are the guys with access to the books. We are just * behind laptops.
-
They've done hugely well keeping us a self-sufficient and sustainable business in light of the financial crisis that has affected virtually every sector. Because of work such as this we can afford to laugh uproariously at the r*ngers' misfortunes whilst being safe in the knowledge that our great club is destined to live long into the future and achieve more great things.
-
Credit were it's due yes.
It doesn't excuse the fact that more should have been done the last 3 years though.
The scouting is working we need to throw all we can into Africa especially just like Ajax have done for years and produced class after class. -
We all knew that there was money there but never knew why it wasnt getting spent. Rangers were buying top class players so they could win the league ASAP! but we are now buying younger players that will be in our squad for a long time winning many titles
-
people always laying into them for not burying Rangers when they have the chance to. if we did, we'd be the ones who are on the brink of bust.
i've always sang Lawwell's praises. getting £2m for Hooiveld was the latest bit of brilliance from him. -

wow 10 posts (11 now) and still no sign of the famous gif??? We're getting sloppy here!!!!
-
always stood by the board but thats not me gloating! i just feel since the late 90's our board have backed the team within reason and yes not getting fletcher was a blow but i still maintain we had enough within that squad to win it!
our board can be envied worldwide, hence the reason that arsenal tried to get lawell and a couple others a while back.
for the greater good! in lenny and lawell we trust! -
also just to add the huns have not been self sufficient in most of my lifetime (1986) as they have relied on murraybags and as i am led to believe celtic have been self sufficient since fergus, which has to be the key!
they dont have real money coming in worldwide like we do, they have relied on shares and *, where we have continually globalised our brand and secured monies from sponsorship and tours!
next step to dominate england after the demise of the devil himself -

let's not forget the volume of members on here who taken their share of pelters in the past for even mentioning financial prudence. Whilst I've taken one or two myself there are others (you know who you are:50:) who have been slaughtered unfairly.
We didn't need to bury Rangers. We operated well within our means, dismantled a squad with an enormous wage bill that gave us some unbelievable times, managed last 16's in Europe, won titles and had enough cash stashed away to build this current squad for Lennon.
Meanwhile, the Huns are circling the drain...............
It's nice to be proven right. -
Rangers should have gone bust a couple of seasons ago. Lawwell and co with their mistakes kept them alive.
-
Credit where credits due, though I still think with one or two signings in WGS last year we would have buried that mob.
