Well perhaps i've misinterpreted FooFighter-J's post, the bit that says,

"you sing about the IRA, and I'll sing about my team" something along that lines. Which looked as if he was saying IRA songs is all we sing. Apologies if I've misinterpreted

 

I don't believe I have threatened anyone.

 

Do you sing songs about the Irish remaining 'neutral' in both the Great Wars? Do you sing songs about how the Taoiseach signed the book of condolence for Adolf Hitler?

Listen... there's no doubt that the British are responsible for a * of a lot of shameful behavior over the centuries (including present time), but dig a little and you'll find that there isn't a culture or nation on the planet that doesn't have some stinking skeletons in their closets!

Celtic are a football club... FOOTBALL!

Can you guys not accept that you are embarrassing some of your brothers and sisters. Can you not accept that by not singing your RA songs, you will not look any less of a Celtic supporter!?

Sing your songs... celebrate you history... but for * sake keep it away from what is supposed to be a joyous sporting occasion.

Belt out our footballing standards at the game and intimidate the opposition players with the noise of footballing passion!

 

Let's be honest people the majority of us care for our Irish roots/history but these chants frankly are embarrassing. We are there to support the players and the club said by the late great Jock Stein himself. Theres a time and place for everything but not IRA chants during football matches.

Would love a pro-IRA chanter to answer this question: why are the IRA relevant to our club at this present time?

 

I don't think I'm better than anyone else mate. I just don't like being told that songs about Irish heroes are unacceptable and embarrassing.

The Old IRA and The Volunteers fought against the British and won their freedom. Just like George Washington , William Wallace and Robber The Bruce.

Yet no one would say songs about The American War Of Independence and The Scottish War Of Independence are unacceptable.

Its hypocritical.

I think it's just the aggressive nature of some chants that should be stopped

Ireland didn't remain neutral during WWl.

 

its nothing personal , but 90% of us know what the songs are about , i just dont need a history lesson everytime to seek a way to justify them

Did he specify which ones? I don't see how songs such as Boys Of The Old Brigade are embarrassing. A bit unnecessary, maybe. But not embarrassing.

The chants about the provos are embarrassing.

If people want to slur Irish heroes and call their songs and the fans that sing them an embarrassment. I have every right to defend them.

I think we all have to agree to disagree, as much as I despise the opinions that are being displayed. I don't think we'll ever agree which leads us to repeat ourselves and go round in circles.
