I will send you a few links if you want mate. Because if you educated yourself on both events. I doubt you would be wanting songs about them to stop for the reasons you have stated.:50:

Celtic are ( or were ) a politically aware, politically active club who's core support championed the IRA. This is a fact. Nobody here can dispute this.

Other politically aware clubs in Basque, Catalonia, Germany, South America and all over the world supported Celtic, not because we were from Glasgow, or we wore green and white, or we won the Big Cup....or any other reason. They supported us because we were different.

Our core support really were not just football fans. Football was a small part of it. We supported Celtic because we were of Irish dispora and Republicans. We waived the tri-colour ( which I assume some of the Brits on here disagree with also ) and chanted about Irish victories. We lamented when the IRA lost battles and lost volunteers. CP was a place we went to support both the Team and practice our national identity.

I would * hate Celtic to be just about football to me. I pity some of you.

I don't care what they think. Especially when they fail to clarify which songs they want to stop.

That is very kind of you but all I want is some supporters to stop embarasing the club and giving the media easy headlines that make us all look like nutters .

Songs about the PIRA should be cut out, we know there is nothing wrong with them but we also know many people not just the huns will be offended, so lets take the high road here, songs about the old IRA should not only be sung but should be played over the tannoys at CP. Also roll of honour and songs about the hunger strikers should still be sung

So you're not really supporting Celtic Football Club then are you? You're just supporting the IRA. If this was IRA Football Club I might get that.
You say the IRA etc is a part of our heritage and supporting Celtic is supporting the IRA, but surely supporting the manager and the chief executive is a bigger part of supporting our club?

Nothing embarrassing about these wars. I would recommend that others who know nothing about these events to read up. Before telling me to stop.

Find the whole thing boring and IMO it is nothing to do with IRA or PIRA, the war is over the last time I looked.

What's the difference between Celtic fans hanging on to the past and the orange order?

Bottom line for me is people can believe what they like however if we are to have any chance of removing bigotry from scottish society (because it makes us look * dumb) then we all have to compromise a little (or in some cases a lot) and forget the things that divide us.

Yes but we dont really want it open to all. We wouldnt be happy if all of a sudden neo nazis started turning up singing horrible songs about killing Jews.

When we say "open to all" what we surely mean is that it is a club for people to support regardless of politics, religion, colour, etc. And part of that is that people have to leave their political/regious/racial baggage at the door. Because then we are no longer open to all. Then we become exclusive.

You yourself have challenged me "how many games do you go to?" purely because I attack IRA chants. It is this view that is endemic of what happens when you introduce politics into a support. Even worse, the loudest minorty then start thinking they know more about the club and should define the club more than the players, the managers, the board, and the clubs heroes, never mind other fans.

Those who revel in singing IRA songs, fly banners condemning a countries war dead, etc, are kidding themselves on if they think they represent an all-inclusive club. They represent the very opposite - where if you want to support celtic you have to listen to songs about terrorist groups and warfare and be sure not to sing anything or fly anything that these people would disagree with (* forbid anyone tried to fly a union jack - the flag of our nation - in the home end at celtic park).

Celtic may not be as insular as Rangers are but we are far from an all-inclusive club while we have so many fans who revel in celebrating war, rebellion, and a very insular view of what it is to be Irish.

Saying you should respect what the club asks of you means he might be in the british army?

good lord, superman can leap tall buildings in a single bound but even he'd think that was a * of a jump to make.

I wish people would read what he actually said. He got asked a question abo the singing and replied that PIRA chants are not allowed. Not once did he day you can't sing certan songs. Just no PIRA chants. And from wha I can see the majority of the support feel the same way.
No one has said dont sing songs that celebrate the heroes of the past, just leave he PIRA chants out and away.
How can you not get that?
