For the £6m fee being mentioned, I want them to show a lot more on a consistent basis than Bernardo has.

Obviously the point I'm making is not an easy one to comprehend, fair enough.

He had a spell of half a dozen games where he looked really good. Since then has went back into his shell and not really stood out. For £6m we need players who are going to influence from the off, not someone who still needs to develop. Nice guy blah blah blah but no.

I would pay the money to be honest. We need to start being brave in the transfer market.

I imagine when he's settled and know where he's going to be playing for a couple of years he will turn into a cracking player. natural MOR replacement for me and he can definitely go up a few levels. Get him signed

Paulo Bernardo's loan to Celtic is going well, the Scottish club is very satisfied with the performance of the 22-year-old central midfielder and, according to A BOLA, has already given signs to Benfica that it is seriously thinking about moving towards the purchase of the player's pass definitively.

The loan contract signed with the Reds' SAD, until the end of this season, has an option to purchase €7.5 million for 70 percent of the transfer, but it is likely that Celtic will push the matter towards the end of the season to try to renegotiate the price.

But the interest of the Scots is gaining more and more consistency and in a scenario very similar to the one set up two seasons ago for Jota, a young striker (also from the Eagles' formation) who left Luz for Celtic under the same parameters and with a similar option value. stipulated purchase, and then ended up signing permanently for the British club — Jota left for Saudi Arabia at the beginning of this season, plays for Al Ittihad

Paulo Bernardo has three goals and two assists in 25 games for Celtic, a total of 1,315 minutes of competition; He played in the team's six Champions League games and started 15 matches.

In the last three he was replaced relatively early (at half-time, 61' and 63') and his performance dropped a little, but the quality, also the degree of professionalism demonstrated and the margin of progression he has, convince Celtic and the Scottish fans and Keeping Paulo Bernardo could soon become a priority for the coach, Brendan Rodgers, who, we understand, really likes the Portuguese's discipline and quality.

Paulo Bernardo spent his entire training at Benfica and was seen as one of the most promising young players of his generation, but the transition from the B team to the main team did not go well.

In 2021/2022, first with Jorge Jesus and then with Nélson Veríssimo, the midfielder was used in 24 matches, but in the following season, with the entry of German coach Roger Schmidt and the arrival of several reinforcements, he lost space in the squad. Paulo Bernardo also played one minute against the Ukrainian side Dinamo Kiev, in Luz, in the play-off for the Champions League (3-0) and 13 minutes in the League Cup against Penafiel (2-0), but always alternated between the group main team and the B team and would end up being loaned, in January 2023, to Paços de Ferreira

In Paços, the midfielder once again performed at a good level. In half a season, he scored two goals and made two assists in 13 games and became an important player for César Peixoto. «He was a very professional, diligent player, always the first to arrive and the last to leave, but he was also used to football with a big team, with a dominant club. He was already an intelligent player, tactically evolved, technically very strong, but he was also a player without acceleration or deceleration, without changing speed, without the ideal reaction to losing the ball. I spoke to him about it and he immediately showed willingness to work, realized it was important and evolved because he also wanted to evolve. And he changed speed, changed for the better in reacting to the loss, playing with much more aggression in duels", recalled the then coach of the Pacenses, in an interview with A BOLA, in February.

Paulo Bernardo spent the pre-season with Schmidt, but did not stay and then went to Glasgow, where he is expected to remain permanently

Paulo Bernardo was seen as a great talent from an early age and SAD's bet lived up to expectations with a contract renewal in March 2020 — until 2027 and with a €100 million release clause

He hasn't made a statement with Schmidt, but Paulo Bernardo remains on the radar. The German coach, in a recent press conference, spoke about the subject of loanees, about Martim Neto (on loan to Gil Vicente) and also about Paulo Bernardo's performance at Celtic: «All the players we loan out are to give them practice and opportunities. to develop, gain confidence and be increasingly responsible. That's our idea, to have a good overview. Then, at the end of the season, we will have to make difficult decisions, because we also have to respect the player’s wishes

Find that a bit of a * take in all honesty. Means we are agreeing to £8 million+ for him.

He's not close to that for me. Could see why we did it for Jota, but Bernardo has had maybe 5 good games.

Be amazed if we dont try to negotiate it down a good bit. He's not shown enough for the fee quoted. £3-4m I'd be fine with.

There's definitely a player there, but he has been inconsistent..

Hopefully he can make more of an impact in the rest of the season.

Not a chance that decision has been made at this point. Particularly in the context of our league position and the focus on the run in.

We should be spending absolutely nowhere near £7m for him. That would be * crazy. It’s not like he’s a 19 year old kid. He’s 22 years old and not shown any consistency at all. He’s played what? 4 good games?

There are 19 year olds in Norway and Denmark going for that amount who have far more games, have been far more consistent and have far more promise. We are just shopping in the wrong market. I’m not against signing Bernardo, but for £7m? More than Jota or CCV? We * kidding here?

Be mental if we paid anywhere near that for him. Could name you 35 players from leagues round Europe who would come to us and have done far more in their career than Bernardo has.

Bar a handful of decent games, don't feel he has done enough to earn the transfer at all. Certainly not at the prices quoted.

Be happier to move on without Bernardo tbh. He seems an ok footballer but nothing special and feel like we should be aiming higher. Benfica are being very ambitious with the price tag they have supposedly put on him

I think that is a fair fee, any more than that would be too much for me. It's a tough call I think and I'm quite ambivalent about him, he has shown enough to say he could develop into a top level player capable of playing in a better league but also some performances show that he may not make it that far. £4m would be my max on him

Good thing about him when he hasn't played well he at least gets about and makes an effort, sometimes that's half the battle, still doesn't impact the game but with more experience you'd hope that would develop

Keep thinking about this one, the price point is a range we need to be shopping in for sure, but player needs to be right for it (I say that, knowing the board utter the same like but do nothing about it).
Jota and CCC are the right sort of players in this price point.
Édouard and Julien as well. Albeit Julien got plagued with injuries and lost his form.

Bernardo isn't quite the ready made players that these guys are/were when we paid that sort of money.

Bernardo would still be a project for us next season at this price point.

The thing about him, he's never actually had a bad game. He's just seldom influenced or dominated a game to make us all sit up and say "that's the guy for our midfield".

He very well may become that guy. But that was Ntcham as well. Who we paid around 4m for. A guy that would often drift through a game without making mistakes, but never fully influencing games the way he threatened to.

I say Ntcham didn't make mistakes, he actually did a fair few mental rushing in moments (ICT) to get red cards. But I'm meaning more outside of his mental brain fart moments, he didn't often make mistakes doing his midfield job. But he never lived up to the hype.

My concern for Bernardo is that he could end up similar to Ntcham in that respect - just never living up to the potential that we can all see is in the player, if he has the attitude to press on with his development.

I wonder if another loan year but keep the option to buy as it is (as opposed to the rumours we are negotiating it currently).

Such a no brainer. Sounds like we are very keen to get this done.
