Patrick Roberts!

Would love to see Roberts back at Celtic. Maybe we are just what he needs to kick start his career. Given he is available on a free we can offer him maybe a shorter 2 year deal and see how it works out or not. Its a chance for him and not high risk for us.

 

The guy could barely get a game for relegation fighting Derby and Middlesbrough, has had injury problem's and is now without a club..

Hasn't done a thing since leaving us. Looks to have regressed massively in fact, anytime I've seen him..

 

Ange would cut it short on day 1 and tell him thanks for coming in..

Paddy Roberts has scored 2 goals since that game against Anderlecht in 2017. In fact that goal against Anderlecht was the only one he scored for us that season.

Couldn't hold down a starting spot for Middlesbrough or Derby on loan. Flopped at Norwich and Girona. That's four failed loan spells in a row since leaving us. City are now actively trying to punt him because his stock has fallen so much.

It's all well and good saying he was great for us, but that was 4/5 years ago. In his last loan spell here he did * all.

 

He’s played a few times on the left since leaving us, which is interesting, but personally I think this ship has sailed. He had his chance, made the wrong decision and he’s suffered (in football, if not financial terms) for the last three years as a result.

That said; a player the board know a large section of the fans admire available on a free? It sounds like the sort of deal that would interest them.

 

They're totally different teams though from us, we're always on the attack playing all types of attacking players with 70% possession hitting 30 shots a game half the of the season.

Quite a difference from the basically West Brom or Norwich of Spain or Championship teams playing garbage stuff with 50-50 possession.

Roberts has no pace or strength about him but he is skilled on the ball with good vision and eye for goal and creative. He wouldn't be the only guy suited to playing for top teams in smaller Leagues, like Tadic, Klassen and Siem De Jong from Ajax were good attacking midfielders for them, went to England etc and were dross but you knew they would be as they're slow players with no physicality - doesn't mean they won't still be good back at Ajax. Could also say the same of guys like Propper, Van Ginkel and Luuk De Jong at PSV and other players for us like Stokes, Hooper, Commons, Rogic.

Theres guys just suited to this kind of team and level.

 

Paddy Roberts being mentioned alongside Rivaldo. What have I walked in to here ?

 

I was a massive fan of Roberts, and I was desperate for us to sign him after his loan spell. However, the suggestion of a trial at this stage isn’t a daft idea at all in my opinion. In fact, given how his career has went since leaving us, it would be far more sensible than offering him a full time contract.

Remember that pre-season on here with all the rumours about whether he would re-sign and then someone got a photo of him driving in to Lennoxtown or something. That was fun

I get what people are saying about Roberts but he’s been very unlucky with his injury while he was here and then the clubs he’s been landed with since he left.

He was always the type of player that suited high possession attacking play - exactly what we do here.

If Ralston can become a world beater in a few weeks then Paddy Roberts signed on the right deal is something we should be considering.
