Celtic, Southampton and PSV Eindhoven are plotting moves to sign Austrian goalkeeper Patrick Pentz, sources have told Football Insider.
Pentz is currently on loan at Danish side Brondby from newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen
The 27-year-old has impressed for the Superliga club since being drafted in as a replacement for Mads Hermansen following his big-money move to Leicester City last summer
The Austrian international has done a solid job of filling the void left by the Dane, having kept nine clean sheets in 24 appearances this season.
The shot-stopper’s contract with Leverkusen is set to expire in June 2025, with his suitors hoping they can secure a bargain deal for him once the transfer window reopens.
Celtic are in the market for a new keeper as Joe Hart is set to retire at the end of the season and Pentz’s ability on the ball means he fits the type of profile Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring in between the sticks.
Southampton are also on the lookout for a new No.1, with Gavin Bazunu ruled out until 2025 after rupturing his Achilles tendon in the warm-up before the Saints’ 3-0 victory over Preston North End on 16 April.
Pentz could prove to be a reliable option for any of the interested parties after helping Brondby fight for the Danish title this season
Rodgers will be keen to sort his goalkeeping situation out quickly after learning that Hart will hang up his boots in just a matter of weeks.
The need for a new keeper is just as desperate at Southampton after their promotion hopes were dealt a blow following the injury to Bazunu
Pentz is yet to make a single appearance for Leverkusen since signing from Stade Reims in January 2023.
The German side could be tempted to cash in on the Austrian before his contract runs out at the end of next season, with several clubs plotting a move for him this summer.

Doesn't look like a first choice keeper to me, and certainly not compared to some of the other links we've seen recently

Would much prefer Cakir the Turkish keeper.

The GK links seem a bit underwhelming other than Lunin/Kelleher, neither of which are realistic now

I agree right enough.
But 6’7 nearly 6’8 Forster, my favourite ever keeper for us (well best IMO, Boruc favourite the mad *), apparently choose football instead of rugby, never once seen him run out and catch a cross. He was more confident in just a point blank impossible save if there was a header in his 6 yard box.
I can’t remember us ever having a keeper that could command his box and catch a cross. One of my earliest Celtic memories is needing to be explained Bonner’s that scared of a cross he doesn’t go up for communion:56:Mr Shelby likes this. -

Football Insider as a source as well btw, I’ll make up a more interesting link at random and I reckon chances are, that’d be more accurate

Yann Sommer is barely 6 foot and he's one of the best keepers in the world. This guy might be * but it won't be because he's a midget :giggle1:
