i was thinking that, when they asked the people in glasgow about tim 3 out of 4 said it's 'offensive', the other woman didn't really know what it exactly meant.

is there something i'm missing?

I bet they had to ask dozens of people before they found 3 that thought 'tim' offensive.

Tim is a celtic fan. It's not an offensive term - I'm proud of being a Tim. * is an Irish catholic. Again not offensive. When used by the huns, surrounded by 'dirty' and 'bassa', then of course it's offensive. Most words would be.

Dirty orange *. That's offensive.

CELTIC SHAME IS SAME OLD STORY

It is the punishment that dare not speak it’s name, and the sanction First Minister Jack McConnell and the Scottish Football Association seem to wish to keep secret.

Not that the high heid yins are alone in their apparent reticence, as the nation’s newspapers also appear to be running scared of even broaching the possibility.

But that is exactly what president John McBeth, his chief executive David Taylor and the SFA disciplinary committee should already be considering.

Not to mention McConnell, who has suddenly gone all quiet on what he called “Scotland’s Shame” before last Sunday’s Old Firm match.

What we are talking about is an order that Parkhead should be closed for two matches and Celtic made to play behind closed doors. That would be an appropriate sentence for the events which occurred when Rangers captain Fernando Ricksen needed a stitch in a head wound, after being hit by a coin, when a fusillade of missiles was fired at him from the stands.

It is not as though there is no precedent for such action, with the SFA being shown the way by UEFA as recently as this season.

It was a cigarette lighter which felled referee Anders Frisk when Roma were in Champions League action at home.

The swift justice meted out by the European bosses then, is already in stark contrast to the dithering of the men who are supposed to control Scottish football.

Roma forfeited the match and were made to play their next Champions League tie in a deserted Olympic Stadium.

Of course it was a strong sentence, but that was not the first time there had been trouble in that arena, a fact which UEFA no doubt took into account.

However, if early indications are anything to go by, the SFA appear to be giving the old Nelson Eye to Celtic’s previous in that department.

Surely McBeth, Taylor and their minions haven’t forgotten Hugh Dallas, dazed and bloodied after being felled by a coin in another Old Firm match which Celtic lost?

That incident brought only a £45,000 fine for Celtic, despite the fact it came at the end of a decade littered with similar offences.

There was the fan who invaded the pitch and made a lunge towards Rangers keeper Ally Maxwell, only to be intercepted and handed over to the police by John Brown.

Rangers directors also had to duck for cover at Parkhead when a hail of missiles rained down on them on another day. And there was the afternoon a commentator was smacked on the head by a pie.

Not forgetting Erik Bo Anderson being pelted with objects thrown as he was stretchered off and, of course, the racist shame of the day banana’s were thrown at Mark Walters.

If the SFA took time to examine Celtic’s previous convictions they would see the Parkhead club’s fans, with a record as long as your arm.

They were even ordered by UEFA to replay a Euro tie 20 years ago against Rapid Vienna at Old Trafford after an Austrian player was battered by a bottle thrown onto the Parkhead pitch.

But don’t look for McBeth and Taylor to stand up and be counted, and don’t expect huge sections of an apparently cowed media to call for the ultimate sanction.

Of course they may argue that this is the first such serious assault on a player or referee at Parkhead in an Old Firm game for nearly six years.

That though, could be explained away by the fact that since Martin O’Neill took charge in 2000, Celtic hadn’t lost there to Rangers until last Sunday.

But instead of their punishment being swift and just, the SFA have chosen to write to Celtic asking for their comments.

What response they expect from the club is hard to imagine, though we have been given a taste of what to expect from Parkhead chief executive Peter Lawwell’s mealy-mouthed utterances about “one or two * idiots”.

Celtic’s record of supporters shame over the last two decades, as recorded above, clearly shows there are many more than just a couple of “idiots” to be dealt with.

Unless the SFA show they are willing to do more than merely talk tough, the problem will continue until a referee, player of journalist is seriously injured…or even killed.

McConnell, McBeth, Taylor and huge sections of the Scottish press would then be answerable to their conscience.

Plying behind closed doors wont happen...the SFA dont want to * off any of the old firm off...lets face it they make the money for the SPL and SFA..

don't think i've seeing it been mentioned in this thread but does anyone think this panaroma show will have any impact on moving to the epl (which won't happen anyway IMO) ???

WHO are the only set of reporters ever to be awarded by UEFA for the quality of their fans? THAT's a precedent they feckers forgot to mention? Which club practically turned Villareal's ground into a home game? Which fans have received letters of praise from practically every * country they've been to in the last three seasons? Even the stewardess on the Vigo flight resigned in disgust at the way we were misrepresented by the media!

Paranoia my *. There's a * vendetta out - always has been, always will be, by the bigoted orange lodge members that hold practically every seat of influence in Scotland.
