the way i see it if paddy plays 5 full 90 mins in a row he shill will not
be good enough for some, every one knows paddy got fittness problems but is he not fitter by each game, if he didnt play last week would we have won? as for him been a idiot shocking , how can you post he,s a heavy drinker and smoker , and again this is all done by hear say and rumour, if i was paddy i would have taken the blackpool offer , because he,s never go to won is some quarters here, ps paddy says he,s fit , some one telling porkeys?????

aye but managers also care about what he does in the other 85 minutes. A player who is knackered after about 20 mins (which is how Lion Jim Craig describes him) does make it easier for the opposition for most of the game. Its a simple calculation to balance the 5 mins of magic against a lot more slack and it seems that every manager who makes the calculation concludes its not worth regularly starting with him. Personally i do not see the problem. This all makes him an ideal supersub for 30 mins a game max.

Read my post again. I didnt post that we know he drinks and smokes, someone else did. I just said 'if' its true that that was the reason he was unfit then it would be pretty sad. I have no idea if its true or not. I hope not because if that is the only reason his talent is not matched by his fitness then that would be stupid self inflicted damage. The other rumour is its just genetic and if that is the case then he cannot be blamed and deserves some sympathy.

I think there is a distinction between being fit (i.e. not injured) and having poor stamina. You can be as fit as you can be and still have poor stamina. I think that is what is being said.

I hate them rumours as well. Its the kinda thing the flith start and some gullable folk decide to believe. Hes a Celtic fan through and through tries to give his all for the club, rarely gets picked and gets slated by Celtic "fans".

Jesus Christ, some people get so defensive when they hear somebody disagree with them. 'Vile rumours'....nobody called him a paedophile!

I like Gunt's assessment that 'fitness' doesn't necesserily equal stamina. If so, that suggests a more tailored style of personal training i'd imagine.

^^^^^^btw, feel free to disagree with my statements, I ain't gonna fall out with anybody! If u believe all Paddy needs is game-time then fair doos!

I think wayne rooney likes a drink & a smoke,

    paul mcgrath
bryan robson, marradonna , peter shilton.players of this ilk liked a
drink or a smoke ( or both)

You can still be fit if you train right, when you smoke or drink when you are still relatively young

    but it gets you later

I think Paddy is one of the most talented players that I have ever seen, but there is a problem.
When I was younger 40 years ago a junior coach told me "son you have all the skill but its a shame you run like you have a piano on your back", you see some have some, some have most, but only a chosen few have all.

My point was that there is much more to being an athlete than talent, I grew up with Kenny Dalgliesh and I can tell you that there were 2 better players than him in that district one Paul Scanlon and the other Andy Dolman, remarkable football players but they both suffered from astma.
As I said before some have, some don't.

at the q&a night at grangemouth lennon was asked about paddys
fitness and he couldnt give an answer, he seemed as baffled as anyone,
but the next week he gave him a new contract so he obviously rates
    him highly.i think hes brilliant:50:
