If he's happy then great! I hope he stays.

And I agree, some think he's better than he is, some think he's worse than he is.

    I think he's decent.

    ive voted to be starting

just because i thiink he could do a job centrally in midfield or in the hole behind the forward

frustrated that he gets no where near the team untill we need a miracle

i thought he done well in cm in the pre season, can play a defence splitting pass which to be honest not many in the squad can

actually i could have voted all 3 options as it looks like he's not gonna get a regular game anyway

id say he's wasted at celtic 4 years and what 30 appearances if your lucky

the guy can't have any ambition surley one of the other spl clubs would lov to have him playing regularly

He should be punted. The Derry lovers have finally admitted that he isn't really Messi- esque, and have now made up a new myth that he is Xavi-esque through his ability to pick a pass from anywhere - bullshit. He is a player who constantly gives the ball away and doesn't chase back when he loses it.

Whether he's good enough or not is actually irrelevant because he'll never be a first team player here, he's only getting older and his mythical fitness will only ever get worse.

If we get any money from him at all then sell him in January, but please board: don't renew his contract because he's lived the life and he can always say "I played and scored for Celtic" which is what all Irish dream of but we are a top football club again now and can't afford to carry people or let folk simply live their dreams.

It's ridiculous how highly some people rate McCourt.
He has been at Celtic for years and has completely failed to establish himself, it's time for him to move on and let someone else have a chance.

Equally it could be said it's ridiculous how low some people rate McCourt, given how few starts he's had in the last while.

Opinion is completely split as this thread is rather unnecessarily proving.

I've never been his greatest fan and don't think he will ever cut it as a regular first team player. That said he was far from worse player on Saturday.

He may have been our most used sub but he is hardly on long enough to actually do anything. He comes on with 15 mins to go when we are a goal down and they are sitting with 10 men behind the ball. It just goes to show we dont rotate players enough atm.

I just wish their were a few more Paddy McCourts in the team that would take the ball and run at * with it!!

Has a bit of talent, but in the body of a pub player. Football has moved on since players like Paddy could cut it at a top level.

Take Gareth Bale for example. Last night I watched that Tottenham match and by * you see the power and strength that boy has. He plays a similar role to Paddy that is why I compare them.

You compare both, you see what a football needs these days to cut it. In the 70's Paddys style was suited, slower paced and less strength but now, you need someone more of Bales Ilk.

Pirlo, Xavi, Scholes, David Silva, Modric, Pjanic, Kagawa, Sahin, Iniesta, Cassano, Del Piero etc. say otherwise.

This is football not a 100m sprint. Check the 1 minute mark, one of the slowest midfielders you'll find, certainly slower than McCourt, leaves three Spanish players in the dust. All it took was a drop of the shoulder, a shift of balance and a burst of acceleration.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XWSmszkceo&feature=related"]Andrea Pirlo - Best player at Euro 2012 [HD] - YouTube[/ame]

If Zidane was playing these days he'd be playing for St. Mirren according to your logic.

No, you completely picked up what I said wrong.

Zidane was an athlete look at the strength they have. The only one that actually backs up what you say is Kagawa, but he has more pace than McCourt.

3 of your players mentioned above are approaching retirement. The rest are athletes. Seriously strong players.

McCourt looks like he stepped out of the pub the night before consuming 12 pints and a chippy on the way home.

There is no way he has what it takes to cut it at a high level.

Comparing him to the names above, gave me a massive chuckle though. Really funny.

He is a player that had huge potential but for one reason or another did not emerge as a star, and relied increasingly on his natural talent to get by while falling behind younger and fitter players.

    Bit sad, really. :triste:

I think you have a point but the players mentioned are a class apart from McCourt and some are very different from each other e.g. Xavi > Del Piero.

The interesting bit about your post is comparing Pirlo to Paddy. Yeah i know Pirlo is a million miles better than Paddy....tbh he is miles better than most...but i think Paddy would suit a Pirlo style role.

I'm no longer bothered whether he stays or goes. His contribution to the first team is minimal so it doesn't really matter either way.
