After Todays Game And Games Gone By What Has This Guy Got To Do To Get A Start?

I Thought Mcginn And Maloney Were Poor Today But He Leaves Mccourt On The Bench Untill 80th Miniute

Time And Time Again Hes Beating Players And Getting The Ball In The Box And Also Scoring Goals For That Matter

Dundee United-He Comes On With 5 Mins To Go And Set-up The Winner
    St.Mirren-He Does The Same

But We Keep Bringing Him On When There Is Only 5/10 Mins To Go?

Do Yous Think He Should Get A Start?

I can see both sides tbh. He can be brilliant but he can also be a luxury. Think he could do his cause a great deal by putting more effort in when he doesn't have the ball. Clearly what he defines as good workrate is not shared by his manager. Personally I think Lennon made a mistake today in not bringing him on earlier. Would still like to see him start more games or at least get more game time.

strange thread. Today was not a great example of McCourt's value. He didnt even do the impact sub thing well today. A reality check is needed. No manager ever wants him to start. One of his ex-managers (if I recall right) said he had the cario-vascular stamina of a 10 year old. Jim Craig says he is out of puff after about 20 minutes at SPL level. The guy has talent but he is not an adequate athlete and will never be a regular starter at SPL level. Just be thankful we have a useful impact sub who can give a great 15-20 mins on most days (although not today)

Actually its best to imagine Paddy is 36 or something and is being used a bit like MON used Lubo

Well we have players like mcginn and maloney who apparently do work harder and thats obviously not paying off, he deserves a chance. C Ronaldo doesnt enter the defensive part of the pitch, so would you bench him?

Mccourt's work rate is there, but we only see about 5 mins of him once in a blue moon so how can you judge him?

Give him a chance, he clearly deserves it.

When you are trying to grind out a result with 15 minutes to go the last player you want to bring on is Paddy McCourt. I was baffled by that decision today.

What people need to realise is that he is and always will be an impact player. He doesn't have the fitness or the work ethic to play week in week out against the likes of Dundee Utd or Hearts. He's a luxury player and its acceptable to start him against the likes of St.Mirren, Hamilton etc..

I must be blind but i see people saying Mc Court won us the game V dun utd away and st mirren aye he beat his man but he fired a ball to no where and it bounced off a defender into the path of Hooper , Hooper wins us them games with him being a classic poacher ,

McCourt played a pivotal role in both of those games and that my friend is a fact.

Most teams have a luxury player and most managers know how to set up the team to get the best out of the creative players (Paddy's game is not about flying into tackles and charging round). Not every player is going to be in the Lenny/Roy keane mould. Unfortunately today was another example of bad tactics at a crucial time :54:

A bit of effort would be nice though at a time when we were trying to hang on for a crucial 3 points.

McCourt got the ball RIGHT to Hoopers feet, he fluffed his first chance and then scored on the second.

I like Hooper but let's be honest here, McCourt did the work on that goal and Hooper came close to * it up. Give Paddy credit where it's due.

I didn't see the game today but I'm confused as to why he was brought on.

I disagree with the St Mirren one, thought he found hooper quite well, it was Hoopers 1st shot that came back off a defender, not McCourts pass!

Agree with you about Dundee Utd away though, McCourt sent a cross over that was cleared, Wilson then sent a cross into the box for Sammy to head and eventually Hooper put it into the net! We are talking about going back 4 moves to find McCourts involvement in that goal imo!

sorry to say bt im starting to agree with you ,he lacks power and stamina, great talent but this must be the reason 3 managers have left him out and were all in awe of his naturall talent..frustrating for all, surely all must be done in training to get the best from him

Paddy McCourt is a great impact player but his body can't take starting too many games, says Neil Lennon
    Nov 21 2010 Sunday Mail
NEIL LENNON calls Paddy McCourt The Eliminator because of the way he takes defenders out of the game when it matters.
But Lennon admits he's virtually had to eliminate McCourt from his starting line-up because he doesn't have the fitness to finish games.
The Celtic boss has been delighted with McCourt's contribution as a super sub, carving out chances against packed defences and tired legs in the later stages of games.
But he's also frustrated that the Northern Irish enigma can't give him that over 90 minutes.
Lennon said: "When teams are getting behind the ball you need someone who can open up a defence. That's what Paddy can do. When he's come on in the majority of games he's made a big difference.
"He did it last week against St Mirren and he did it against Dundee United with the cross for the winner.
"His role seems to be as an impact player but we would like to get more out of him and get him starting certain games a bit more.
"But I don't know if his body can take it - it's something in his make up. He's never really played even five or six games.
"I don't think he's weak, he's just prone to picking up niggles. We've had all sorts of specialists looking at him. He's a throwback, he's not your normal modern-day footballer."
