my pal knows him from when he played at rochdale and apparently he was into allsorts when out in town, thats why he went back to ireland to sort his life out as he knew his career was going to end if he didnt.

what a silly thing to say m8 (wheres the face palm smilie when you need it)! you honestly think a smoking athlete is gonna compete at a level anywhere near the top level? If he was a keeper then its not much of a problem due to standing in one spot for 90 mins.
AND! whether you have a billion dollar dietitian all that advise and practise goes out the window as soon as the 2000+ chemicals get into your body..
If he does smoke then i can see why he'll never get fit enough

Look at Prosinecki and even Latapy...both CHAINsmokers but were physically fit enough to both play into their late 30's.

Hows it a silly thing to say? There have been many top athletes throughout the years who have been smokers and drinkers who have managed to compete at the highest levels of their sport.

This underlined statement is a bit contradictory!

im sorry am getting off topic but name me a top athlete playing at the top level in the last 10 years thats smoked..
whats so contradictory about that bit? i was on about his cardio, no running about etc, doesnt mean i'd let him off.
Any youngster I know that plays with a youth team gets told straight away, if you smoke just pack it in straight away or find another team.

Ashley Cole! Pictured smoking on holiday last couple of weeks...possibllt the best LB in football right now.

"If he was a keeper then its not much of a problem due to standing in one spot for 90 mins"
Well if you think that a Goalkeeper doesn't have to be at the top of his physical peak, then clearly you know nothing about football.

Quite rightfully youngsters should be told not to smoke, it's a disgusting habit and leadsd to health problems.

Anyway back to McCourt, he just doesn't have it in him to develop physically and mentally IMO.

John Hartson being a prime example.

Use to go out for a meal with the team at the Seamill Hydro with people telling the players what they should eat. Big John woluld always do what he was told & then order something else to be taken to his room later on that night when no one knew. Legend

    Joe Cole smokes.

I would keep Paddy, he's not picking up a massive wage, he wants to play for us and he is capable of doing pure magic with a football.5 grand a week is worth the enjoyment of watching players fall out of his way a few times a season.

Fast paced, ultra fit league, spending most of his time trying to chase down the ball? He'll end himself playing down there. Keep him around and give us something entertaining to watch at a midweek Cup game.

I believe McCourt is on about £4,000 a week. Not a great amount of money in today's football, but still al lot in the world of us Average Joe's!

The money in would be next to nothing, just like his current wage. Keep him, decent back up for very cheap. And if he gets fit hes got the heart to push for a place, wether he is good enough for one is another topic
