The big boys down south keep these kind of boys on there books and set them up with decent paid long term contracts then loan them out, covers all basis as the loan club pay some of the wage and if he turns out good he's ours! Should not be losing talent all the time! Shocking business

Don’t get this love in saying it’s shocking business he won’t make it here look at our options in wide areas before you even get near him. He’s not good enough pure and simple

Wonder if he was looking for a perm move away cause if not why didn’t he get a loan out? Curious but then he’s not really been involved at all even in pre-season.

What is the harm in loaning out Development squad players to enhance their skills and experience in better leagues and then brining them back to challenge for the Celtic first team.
My gripe is that it is not our policy at Development level,we don’t loan players out, Why?
Our Development squad policy seems to be(though other teams request loans) that we punt players and include a sell on fee.

Was a certain Callum McGregor not loaned out to Notts County(When he wasn’t deemed fit for the Celtic first team), he played along side another player on loan at County…..A guy called Grealish(now at Man City).
My point…if we are cultivating the cream of young talent at Celtic why not loan them out for a season at a higher league level to see their potential before offloading them prematurely. Our policy at ‘present’for the Development squad seems to be not to loan out our players.
Maybe somebody in the know could confirm???

Blackpool Football Club can confirm the signing of Owen Moffat from Scottish Premiership side Celtic.

The 20-year-old winger, who will initially link up with the Club’s Development Squad, has put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract at Bloomfield Road, which includes an option for a further year.

On the books of Celtic since the age of seven, he made his first-team debut for the Bhoys against Ross County last season and followed it up with a further two appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

On joining Blackpool, Owen Moffat said:

“I’m really happy to sign for Blackpool. The Club has been interested for a few weeks now and it’s good to get the deal done. I want to put some good performances in for the Development Squad and see what happens. Hopefully I can push on into the first-team squad.”

    Academy Director Ciaran Donnelly added:

“Our recruitment team have watched a lot of Owen and he was identified as a player that would be an excellent addition to our Development Squad. He’s had an excellent football education at a top club and academy in Celtic and we are really pleased that he has decided to continue his development with us. We are grateful for the excellent co-operation throughout from Celtic, particularly from Darren O’Dea and Academy Director Chris McCart.

“Owen will join up with the squad and be under the guidance of Stephen Dobbie. We are really confident that this is a great fit for all involved.”

Real bright spark in the preseason last year. Pity that didn't continue but all the best to him at Blackpool.

Hope he gets the first team football to push him on.

Odd tthat he'd move to another development squad. At his age you would think he'd be looking for 1st team games somewhere to progress.

Good move for him, but the hype he got from a chunk of our fan base was bizarre. Nowhere near the level required

Yet another player produced by our academy that was too wee/lightweight/powderpuff to ever make it in our 1st team.
Do our scouts just hang around * wonkas chocolate factory all day picking up. Oompa loompa.

Mcintyre getting punted was long overdue. Nothing has came thru at academy level in years and their results/performances have been awful altho I don't hold out much hope with hoof mcmanus and hatchet man odea in charge either

The difference in physique and athleticism between our youth and random English teams like Watford is mad, look at Lawal when he signed at 18 compared to our own 18 year olds. Like a man amongst 12 year olds

did he play a part for the assists for ralston's winner last December? I remember he done something in a game that was vital for a win... he also played a good cameo role in the cup final v hibs when we struggled to put out a squad with injuries. Good role in the new role

a bit like belfast gaelic players against 'culchies' - saying that put a good gaelic player and/or 'culchie' into a 5-a-side pitch and they look awkward as *. good Gaelic players don't make good footballers - good footballers can be great Gaelic players - fact!
