Celtic rejection
Coyle was questioned about his decision to reject Celtic in the summer, but he insists he never wanted to be anywhere but the Premier League.
"The best individual players and the best teams work in England so you want to compete against the best," he said.
"Celtic is the team I supported as a boy, they offered me the job but I turned it down to stay at Burnley.
"Anyone, as a player coach or manager, you want to be the best you can be that is my motivation, I want to be involved at the highest level in football and that is the English Premier League.

tbh, fair play to Coyle. He wants to better himself as a manager, duno why he'd chose bolton for that, but his choice. He did mention that celtic were going to double his salary and he still knocked it back which shows he isn't motivated by lining his own pocket. Good luck to him. Think he'll need it

Fiar play to him for being so honest also it just shows that we aren't as big as wee think when a Celtic fan can turn us down for a bottom 5 EPL team . Good luck anyway m8 you'll need it.
-
hes only honest now to try and justify why he left burnley bringing celtic into the argument any real celtic fan would have only been asked once and would have jumped at the job * owen coyle hope he never gets the chance to manage celtic again:47:so hes saying were not the highest level * him hope bolton get relegated
-
the highest level is champs league which he will not experience at bolton .
-
hes right to knock us back i think because he knows as much as we do if you dont win an old frim game up here you then have some daft * shouting for you to be sacked etc. you need to win league here do something in europe and play awsome football to have full backing of us the celtic fans . so its a wise choice to knock us back but also shows hes a big * bag ,

Fair play to him on the money front. I'm still baffled as to why he'd go to Bolton. I suppose things can only get worse at Burnley and even if Bolton do go down this year, most of the fans will still blame Megson. joemc is right about the Champs league though...
-
think he goes there feels safe there the club have no ambition never be a top 6 club and he dose what the management want him to do get in and reduces the wage structure
-
good one him. A decent honest guy. Good luck to him.
-
Coyle, Moyes, Mc Leish, Davis, all young Scottish managers doing very well in England, good luck to them. We're Celtic, we're in Scotland and we do have financial restrictions, however I wouldn't what to support another team.
-
to be quite honest I'm glad he didn't come as we've seen his fickle attitude these last few weeks, jumping ship in an instant. Plus I have a lot of faith by this stage of the season in Mowbray, he's really starting to fill me with hope for the future
-
ah well, leaast he's being honest with us all, good luck to him with Bolton

well at least he is honest ,have to say i always liked him and dont agree with never wanting him to come to celtic because he turned us down once. hes gonna need a lot of luck tryin to keep bolton up but that will only make him a better manager for us when he does eventually come "home" to parkhead LOL

Well obviously money is not the key motivation for Coyle. I can understand him wanting to test himself in the epl after doing a miracle and taking Burnley up. It would have been easy to take the extra money and move to Celtic.
I don't have any ill will to him for turning us down. In fact given he is a young manger the more experience he gains now may make him an even better manager some time down the road for Celtic. Lets face it Boltan is clearly only another stepping stone for him. On the face of it not much of a step up from Burnley team wise but it seems there is quite a bit of a financial gap between the 2 clubs and Coyle obviously feels he has a chance to establish himself at the epl level at Boltan rather then at Burnley. Their lack of finance probably means that even if they survive this year relegation is just a matter of when not if.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 11, 2010
