Why couldn't he be, the similarities are they are from Glasgow, were lanky strikers who played mostly in the Lower divisions. Ferguson started off at East Stirling, done well, went on to St Mirren done well, went on to Aberdeen and done well then on to Man Utd. Coyle has went from Falkirk where he was only temporary manager but showed his credentials by winning 13 of 19 games. Went to St Johnstone where he's been successful and then Burnley where he's been successful again and could possibly be coming to Celtic where I predict success will follow. Does a good job here and could go on to be a bigger and betetr manager than Martin O'Neill all if's and buts but you dont get many managers especially young ones like Coyle who's had success at every club he's been at.

While I have no doubt that Coyle could be a good acquisition for us, my only worry could maybe be his lack of 'player pulling power' if you get me? A lot of the bhoys are talking about Billic and how some decent croation players would jump at the chance at working with him, I just dont think Coyle has got that status yet.

Think its been too quick tbh, would have liked an interviewing process of all ossible candidates, don't want to rush anything

Saying that think he will be a great manager

    BBC have changed the text yet again, and it now says;

    "Celtic target swift Coyle switch.

Owen Coyle is wanted by Celtic, who aim to conclude a deal for the Burnley manager by the end of the week."

    ---

Please, don't let it take too long.

Owen Coyle is wanted by Celtic, who aim to conclude a deal for the Burnley manager by the end of the week. Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has spoken to the 42-year-old, who has taken the Clarets to the Premier League in his first full season in charge.
Burnley are anxious to keep Coyle and have offered him a contract extension.
And operations director Brendan Flood said he is "100% sure that Owen Coyle will lead Burnley in to their first season in the top flight in 33 years."
<!-- E SF -->Flood also said there had been no official approach from the Glasgow club for Paisley-born Coyle, who has two years of his current deal to run at Turf Moor.
Coyle joined Burnley in November 2007, a few days before St Johnstone won the SFL Challenge Cup final against Dunfermline.

The former Bolton, Dundee United, Motherwell and Falkirk striker took the helm at McDiarmid Park in April 2005, finishing second in the First Division.
The Perth club, who recorded a surprise 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox that season, also reached the semi-final stage of both domestic cup competitions, losing to the eventual winners on both occasions.
Celtic are looking for a new manager after Gordon Strachan stepped down on Monday.
And leading scorer Scott McDonald is an admirer of what Coyle has achieved in his short time at Burnley.
"He's done a fantastic job," McDonald said of Coyle, whose squad includes Steven Caldwell, the brother of Celtic defender Gary.
"We've kept a close eye on Burnley this year as well because Gaz Caldwell's brother plays for them, so we've been hearing about Burnley for the last 12 months.
"We've seen a lot of them on TV and they've played some great stuff at times.
"It's not for me to comment on who's going to be the next manager - it's not my decision. I'll just be happy to pull on the Hoops again next year and work as hard as I can for whoever that is."

I would say this has been in the pipe line for a while, I wouldn't be surprised if the board knew of Strachan's intentions well in advance and had put feelers out long before Monday, the process probably wasn't as quick as it seems Josh.

Bilic's agent said he would be interested in talking to Celtic, not quiet the same as him actually saying he wanted to join us.

i believe theres a lot of people getting caught up in burnley winning a play off to get to the premiership.....can we remember that burnley actually finished fifth in that league.
i for one dont think owen coyle is ready for a club like celtic and i think celtic would benefit more from an experienced continental influence.
and this * about needing a celtic background......* off. would that rule out capello and rijkaard if they expressed an interest in the job.
this celticminded claptrap is like a chain around our necks.

Bookies either have Coyle heavy odds on or have suspended betting. I hope it goes through and would be delighted.

Billic would have been a huge risk, all you have to do is look at Scolari for a start

no, had my heart set on Bilic but ah well, i think again this signing reflects the ambition of the board which is very little!!!!
