he was pipped for a place in the spl by gretna,a team paying wages that most spl teams couldnt do.the fact he didnt play at the highest level has fuckall to do with anything.the best manager on the planet was a * footballer, the choosen one was a guy who didnt play football at a decent level and davie moyes a guy who wasnt a great footballer either is well touted so your argument doesnt add up.

I will support whoever gets the job...as I am aGlasgow Celtic supporter!! Yes, I do care who is in charge. But, until they fail I will support them through and through.

We have no idea how Coyle..or any of them would turn out as manager. All we can do is support whoever is picked.

As for having a "CV"...pile of pish imo.

I, for my part would like Coyle to be our next manager.

how else do you appoint for any job? If you dont look at CV then its pue mystic meg stuff. Achievement is not really what I am on about. Its more about solid experience of any top league anywhere. Think about it -both MON and WGS, had plenty of EPL experience and had acheived mid table EPL status at times and reached cup finals. The last novices we appointed were Barnes, Brady etc. Its a very very risky strategy. I would be amazed if Coyle is appointed. Its not the time for gambling.

Coyle isn't a novice but m8. He certainly ain't a john Barnes or Liam Brady.

Owen Coyle has proved in his short time as a manager that he has plenty of potential to succeed at the highest level.

OK fair enough. How do you explain away having no experience in the top leagues of Scotland or England, the fact he was a first division Scottish manager until a year and a half ago, he has only one full season above St. Johnstone level, his biggest achievement is scraping 5th in a playoff in the championship? Is that a Celtic managers CV? Is it safe to judge a guy on one season and give him one of the biggest jobs in the world? I would guess that handfulls of managers have scraped into the playoffs over the last few years, many with a lot more experience than Coyle. If McGhee not one? He went on to lead Well to the bottom half of the SPL this year.

What i find sad is ,not so long ago some the the best managers around would have thought about the celtic job ,why dont the celtic board headhunt a top name or someone who has substance in the game ,money,.

Not so long ago Peter Lawell said we would be a major force again and the word AMBITION got a mention ,well its getting used again as in LACK OF AMBITION,by the names that are getting touted around ,no disrepect to the ones in the frame but if celtic wanted to go forward into the big boys playground ,now is the time to do it .

Whatever man gets the job i will support him but celtic fans are getting short changed here ,we have ambition to move on and we where making noises in europe not so lond ago but not now sadly ,i think the board are happy with winning the spl and getting in the champs league on a meagre budget every year but they got found out this season by probaly the worst team ever to win the league ,i doubt the stadium will be full next season ,celtic fans are not mugs .

Ofcourse you look at the CV. He has been manager of St Johnstone, as was pointed out earlier, and just missed out on promotion because the team he was up against had loads more money than he did and steamrolled Scottich Football lower leagues.

He reached Semi Finals with St Johnstone. He too Burnley to London and destroyed EPL teams with mediocre players. Got them within a whisker of the Final agaionst a Spurs team who had spent close to £50M that season.

He also done all this while gaining promotion from what is touted as the hardest league in Europe to gain promotion from.

To me that looks like a good record.

To be fair as well if you feel that you wont support Celtic anymore if he gets appointed then Celtic dont need fans like you.

gambling on potential is what this is about because if he really is good (which will take a few more years to prove) we do not want to pay the going rate to nick a manager. Like Keane, lets see how he does in the EPL for a year or two. MON and WGS had the ability to keep smallish/not wealthy teams in the EPL and even to mid table. I would at least want to see if Coyle could match that before considering him.

looking through the post I can see Coyle has done well but the problem is the level he was working at and the very short duration. Football is littered with guys who had short periods of doing well at a lower level. Nothing against the man (who seems a very nice bloke) but its a couple of years too early and a couple of seasons in the EPL away from being a serious candidate on whom we can make a judgement. Kind of like a poor mans Roy Keane in that respect. Made a good start but has not shown long enough or at high enough level that he is good enough for a really big job. Maybe the manager after this one if he keeps up the progress but right now this is a * of a gamble.

Whoever we take on is a gamble. Every manager appointment/player transfer is a gamble that may or may not work out.

Billic is a gamble. Mowbray is a gamble. Coyle is a gamble.

They are all young managers and have all done pretty well in their careers so far, that is why their names are being thrown about as possible candidates.

If people expect a top, top manager who has a track record in a big European league and plenty of European experience - then they are in dreamland.
And if people expect us to pay £17m to get Moyes they need their heads checking.

risky too. Never been a club manager. A but barnes-esque for me. Again a huge gamble. Of the usual ones listed Mogga is a far safer candidate. He has done all Coyle has done in terms of play-offs and has SPL experience (with real credit) and EPL too. Why would you pick Coyle over Mogga? If I was Mogga and the job went to Coyle when I was applying I would be on the phone to my solicitor because Mogga has a far better CV and masses most experience. The concept of being good 'for his age' doesnt extend to managers. Youth is usually not a good thing in that game.

wasnt the playoff final on monday night?

why would he discuss his future on the biggest night of his managerial career. also, if it was before the game wouldnt he have been with the players getting ready for the match and if it was afterwards wouldnt he have been celebrating. i dont believe it, personally

I can see both sides ofthis arguement but in my opinion, this is the time celtic hould be looking at bringing in a good calibre of manager that has experience in both Europe, and at a reasonably big team. I think that after the season we have just went through, we need something back from the board. we need them to show us that they want celtic to progress, not maintain. If they really want celtic to develop and start playing quality football while giving europe a right good go, as well as getting the title back, they need to get a quality manager and spend some cash. Im not talking tens of millions, but enough to get a few class players in.

I would like to see Bilic in, I think he is young, motivated, and has an obvious talent. People will say he has no club experience, but fact is, you can only judge him on what hes done, and he has done a top notch job with croatia. I think his global recognition would also benefit us in getting a higher level of player in.

Owen Coyle has done very well with St Johnstone and Burnley, but I think his lack of European experience, along with his lack of top level coaching could be too much of a risk.

Either way im behind the coach, but as a paying celtic fan, I would like to see the board show ambition and show us that they want celtic to develop as well.
