    rubbish.
why should a law be changed because a tiny proportion of teams can't follow said rule.
now i'm no expert in football law, but even I can understand you can't play a illegible player in a match he's illegible to play in.
    and I don't get this ''it's a harsh punishment *''
the rule is down in black and white for all to see and the punishment for flouting said rule is also written down.

Well thats a lot of *.
Punishment is the forfeit of the match. A forfiet = 3-0. Its not unfair.

The end result of them going out, is although unfortunate. Is completely fair.

    Slight off topic:
The other thing i find funny is that all these talk shows keep saying "if bartozs scores he could have put them through on goals rule". (both clyde and bbc have stated this) Well that's pish as well. If he'd have played the first match in Poland, we'd have won that by forfeit as well. With another 3-0 to us.
Why is this so difficult to understand?

The issue is clear. Sack your admin and apologies refutely to your fans. By all means appeal the decision and ask for clemency but don't start the "change the rules" pish.

I'm embarrassed. The punishment most definitely does not fit the crime.

We were horsed by LW and neither us not them deserve this.

I genuinely think we should openly ask UEFA if there is any way we can forfeit the tie and offer the place back to LW if we can.

It would be the right thing to do an it would also be a PR master stroke that would benefit us in the long term.

I've seen the (what I presume to be an officially) translated letter and it doesn't suggest a rematch. All it asks is that Celtic and Legia issue a joint statement to UEFA requesting that they overturn the forfeit.

However if you Google translate the statement off of their website it does seem to suggest a rematch.

I think if the law changes, it'll open a huge kettle of fish. Eg barca fielding suarez next week. Who cares if they only get a small fine?

Unless you want UEFA to write laws for how long an ineligible player is on the field for?

Imo the rule should stand. They're there for everyone to observe and apply. If the team is too thick to apply it themselves, they deserve to be kicked out.

I agree the law needs to be changed.

The rule requires and amendment to include,

'Ye shall appeal the decision through the appropriate channels with dignity and respect. Defying this rule will result in moving to the opposition country and working in the worst paid jobs for life.'

    Oh wait

Begging is not exactly the honourable thing to do is it. The honourable thing to do would be to forget about it. Even suggesting such a thing is daft. The game would be a riot waiting to happen.

Which is EXACTLY what the BBC journo would have done.

I'll take an English speaking Polish journalists word for it though.

In my view the banned player should not even be in the match squad and this in itself should constitute a forfeit (and actually might). I'm not sure if the UEFA rules cover this or only "fielded players" (I couldn't find a definition of "participates" from the UEFA rule book), but to me it would clarify any grievances associated with this "oh he was only on for 5 minutes" * yet wouldn't really change the rule.

Well, I shall allow myself the audacity of disagreeing with you on this issue.

I can see that you are all in the "dura lex sed lex" camp, and I admire your staunch position. However, as someone bright on one of Legia boards noticed, there are also other rules that constitute the basis of law, such as...

    1. Placuit in omnibus rebus praecipuam esse iustitiae aequitatisque quam stricti iuris rationem
    2. In omnibus quidem, maxime tamen in iure aequitas spectanda sit.

... translated into English, these rules read "you don't cut off somebody's * in public for * into the swimming pool". Quite commonsensical, isn't it?
