Martin O'Neill's ours for a while yet. He is desperate to further his brilliant achievements in Europe even more, and I don't think he will give up the challenge of that any time soon.

    Hail Hail Martin O'Neill!

I thought that Martin was on a year by year rolling contract - I understand that to mean that as part of his contract he has to give the club 12 months notice (and vice versa from the club):78: - I may have got this wrong, but don't think so - that should mean that he aint going nowhere at the end of this term (I hope anyhow) coz he wants some more of these :62: :ynwacelti -

think thats only to walk away and not cost any party * all - if we wanted to sack him - he would be gone tomorrow with poppy in his pocket - vice versa - if he wants to leave - compo would have to be paid - contracts aren't worth * all

rolling contract means he could * off tommorow.

IF the board had half a * brain they'd get him on a 3 year contract but them dumb * would probably keep him on a rolling contract if he won the CL

don't think the board had anything to do with rolling contract decision - imo that it was all MON was prepared to sign - keeping his options open and holding celtic over a barrell - no way will he allow himself to be tied in to a long term contract (for all tied in actually means)

Guys remember one thing. When MON tool over the reigns at parkhead the Press had him within a couple of days, leaving after a year as a replacement for an ageing Alex Ferguson. It was all a neat ploy by Dermot Desmond who had his hand in both Man Uts and celtic. He was 'grooming' him in a big position, ready to set him up as Man Uts boss.

Okay so big deal. That turned out to be bollox, like everything else in the press. But do we really acre? MON is an intelligent guy, who I would imagine knows his own mind. If he is going to leave then he will do it. But meanwhile he is manager of Celtic and we are getting more than our money's worth for him. He also is a substantial shareholder in the club and is outwardly very passionate about or performances especially in Europe. I really do think he cares about the whole Celtic package, including corporate, team and supporters and would be hard pushed to go to a club who are not one of the big boys. I also think that Celtic are continually lobbying the EPL CEOs and Sky to make the move out of the SPL. So for MON there is no great panic to jump ship, nor do I think he wants to.
The one year rolling deal, is a smart bit of work by him, that keeps his options open. And why not? I mean we are always looking for the best deal arent we, no matter what job we do.
Will MON leave eventually? Yes of course. Did Jock Stein leave eventually? Yes.
There is no point worrying about the future, that we cant see or do anything about.
Celtic and MON need to make the best of the situation whilst it exists.

Many thought Jock Stein was forced out Hail Hail, did you ever see the photo of when Billy Mcneill took over and big Jock was standing in the background I think his face told a lot about what was really happening at that time. I think he was supposed to move onto the Celtic Board was he not and as far as i'm aware, never did.

True, Stein was pushed out. You have to remember that post 67 was always going to be downhill for Stein. He won every domestic and international honour.

But that is irrelevant to what he did achieve. As for MON he is as vulnerable as any other manager.

I have to disagree with you about post 67 being downhill for Stein. He was still taking the club to 9 in a row winning league and Scottish cups and also European quarter finals, the semis and again the finals themselves in 1970

What I mean is, he would never have a 'new' success that could beat the 67 year. Never heard of the saying.."It's all downhill from here""

You are correct with the information about the contract. however with a rolling contract of 12 months, he's always approaching the end of it! in a similar way to players now, when his contract is up, he can either renew it or move on. he is in no way legaly binded to any club and is free to do as he wishes. The policy for signing a manager, is that to buy him out of his contract, you have to pay compensation, which is deemed to be the remainder of his wages. With MON, he's always , at a maximum, a 12month wages fee away from signing for any body else. I forget what sort of money MON is on at celtic, probably 200,000 per year? so that would be the maximum fee a club would have to pay for his services. Any club south of the boarder could afford him technically. The big question is which club he wants to manage!

Dont see Man Utd as the big attraction they were.....dont have the money to compete with Chelski and a lot of uncertainty in the boardroom...

    So dunno...
