We aint spending 13m on Benkovic and 15m on Burke as that's what both clubs would command and wanting back regardless if they do well or not minimum.loan only option.

 

Surely we have actual targets who are wingers and we could push the boat out for to get in this month to get them bedded in for next season. Or is that too forward thinking for us?

 

Unless we get rangers in the cup early doors.

 

He played not bad for Scotland I suppose, he can be paced and strong, I would rather see a return to form Scot Sinclair, though I think we have waited long enough for that to happen, probably time to cut him loose and give Burke a chance to make a name for himself

 

Wouldn’t it make more sense to get someone in who can play on the left side instead? Burke is a right winger.

I know, mate and if it was a longer loan I'd agree with you (especially if there were an option to buy); but it isn't, it's 6 months. That's a short-term fix, mate, and if he's not good enough for WBA right here and now, it is a totally justifiable question to ask why we should think he'll be good enough for us right here and now.
Hopefully Brendan will comment and let us know what he sees in the lad and what he expects him to bring to the table in the next 6 months. Maybe he's hoping to do a Paddy and extend it in the summer?

If it's "try before you buy", why is it 6 months with no option? Our previous loans with a view to buying further down the line were very different.

All of these short term loan deals are really tiresome and uninspired by the board but I do like the look of Burke and think he has the potential to help us. Just wish it was an 18 month deal because as soon as he's getting really settled into the team and we start thinking about CL qualifiers at the start of the summer.. he'll be gone.

I'm just happy someone has jumped at the chance to play for Celtic. I think he's someone that can work with James Forrest and he needs a bigger player to be the perfect foil. If it doesn't work i'll be very surprised, but it's not the one i'd have went for. Last couple of days i figured it was the easiest deal to do and he'll be a good battering ram to have. He's obviously got a lot to prove, but i think for someone coming in who knows people already here i think it makes for a happy camp.
The mistakes he's been making are probably not that hard to rectify.

 

(If) he does well always look to extend loan like Roberts.but we wont buy outright although we did with Edouard.

 

Happy with the signing, as you mentioned an option to buy would have been ideal.

The only negative with the loan is that he will be away at the end of the season and we are back to square 1 before the euro qualifiers.
