Yep, goes without saying that if we're offered it, then its happening - the fans won't have a say.

6 games of interest a season in comparison with 40+?

We should be aiming to be the best at Celtic, that's all we ever hear. So to that end going to a prosperous league full of decent teams and vast media revenue streams is only a natural thing to want to do.

In time, if we really are as big and as good as we think we are, then we'll qualify for The Champions League. As the winners of the EPL.

And if we're not, or it doesn't happen quickly enough ?

I agree BTW that the board will jump at it regardless.

In my opinion potentially getting the chance to compete week in week out with world class opposition will more than compensate. We are doing * all in the champions league in our current financial situation now anyway. I think our potential is enormous and genuinely believe we would be in the running for cl places down south after the dust settles. I think parkhead would be bursting at the seams and we would have champions league style atmospheres every match.

    wooooooooooow!

i was away for 4 days and i get back i i read this thread! big story, no doubt about that!

both pro and contra sides have reasonable arguments! but IMHO the chance to get into the worlds best football league shouldn't be missed! i don't think we will loose our clubs history nor do i think that we will became an english club! we will continue being CELTIC the only difference will be the money hence the better football.

    hail hail

p.s. i'm kind of ashamed when reading some of ur posts up there bhoys! afraid of mediocrity, are you? afraid of competiton???? we are glasgow celtic ffs.... we are the grand old team! we can make it down south guys no doubt about that in my hear or mind! u should have more faith in our team lads!

if it went down to a fans vote, then we would be still going to the EPL IMO.

Were not going to caese to be a scottish team because were in the EPL, When have you heard of cardiff being called an english team?

I understand peoples scottish patriotism but its the best thing for celtic and something I would be in total favour of.

We'll plateau until our time comes, it's not as if we'll go under.

We'd be living in an environment tailor made for a club of our size to be successful. As Simon Jordan has said today, which I'm still not 100% certain about but anyway, if we were to pay £100 million to be granted access the share price rocket and the fact our multimedia revenue would move in line with the clubs down south we'd recoup that within relative minutes.

I'd take Celtic v any Premiership or top tier Championship side over Celtic v any SPL side (barring Rangers).

If not only for the fact we've been dished up 4 games against the poor SPL sides for so long it would freshen up the product on show for the fans.

Regarding the CL and the arguments for and against, there is one thing no-one can really deny and that is that we've been punching above our weight for a few seasons and have been found out. Yes we had a few good games but they were few and far between and we're hardly thought of as a good European side, let's be honest.

That said, of we had the money available to both strengthen the side and to do it with players of a higher calibre than what we can attract currently, then we'd at least have far higher odds of beating the likes of the Allborgs of this world, no disrespect to them!

The potential for growth both on and off the park cannot be denied by anyone on here. We have a massive untapped source of revenue just waiting to be exploited and while that sounds callous, it's meant to be. Like it or not, the business side of the club is paramount and we cannot sustain any type of growth by being tied to a large overdraught. Those days are long gone and hopefully will not return, however if we were guaranteed X amount every season before a ball was kicked then with forward planning our manager can start to look at and approach players who will raise the level of our play and from there, hopefully challenge for trophies.

It's a joke to be honest, another way for the teams who struggle in the Premier League to guarantee they'd never go down the same route as Leeds, Southampton etc...

Anyway this is how It'd look at the moment if you take the the bottom two from the Premier League, add the top 14 Championship clubs and then Celtic and Rangers...

    Newcastle
    West Brom
    Wolves
    Birmingham
    Sheff Utd
    Cardiff
    Reading
    Burnley
    Swansea
    Preston
    Ipswich
    Bristol City
    QPR
    Sheff Wed
    Crystal Palace
    Doncaster
    Celtic
    Rangers

That would blow anything the SPL could serve up out the water. In fact Hearts, our third placed club, would struggle to stay in that league for me.

it seems to me that people have become so used to success and having only one strong competitor that they're scared of not winning a trophy for a few years, which to me would suggest that supporting celtic is a bit of a glory exercise.

i think a move to the english premier league would be the only way for us to progress as a club. we're being held back in the spl, financially and by not being able to attract the big players.

I would welcome the prospect of going to cp week in week out and seeing the bhoys play against man utd, liverpool and even hull, stoke etc with open arms!!

Im not denying that, there's some good clubs in there with decent fanbases.

Both the Sheffield clubs can easily average 50,000 between them for a start.

I guess if the money was more evenly distributed than it currently is then it may give sides like that more of a chance.

I still think it's a way of clubs like Bolton wanting to guarantee themselves continued wealth. I notice as part of those proposals that only one team would be promoted each season to PL2, How fair is that on clubs just outside that group?

Guys I fully accept that there are huge potential benefits to going to the EPL (although would we defo be in EPL1 in this new two league set up ?) and I would be excited by games versus Liverpool and Man U. But what I am asking is how we'd feel in a totally different set up? There is something quite specific about supporting a team in our postion - we are used to winning, being the biggest, having might and political weight on our side. All that would be seriously shaken up and it would be a different thing supporting Celtic in that environment as ppposed to what we are used to. It's a massive change for the psyche to cope with.
