I'm against the idea. The cons outweigh the pros in my opinion.

good point, Man City have also been givin all the money in the world, plus Robinho and still find themselves without even coming close to winning anything, or even UEFA cup football next year.

It would be good for me if Celtic moved to EPL2, more chance I could watch them on TV :52:

Of course I'm dubious about this EPL2 idea and much of what Martin mentioned makes sense - if it were to happen then there are all sorts of issues that come with it, but I don't think for one moment than any of those issues are insurmountable. We are Glasgow Celtic after all!

However, I would like to rephrase the question:

Are we capable of challenging for the European Cup while based in the SPL?

I'm not sure if we are. Getting to the last 16 is a * of achievement - getting to the last 8 just about plausible but even in the group stages we are facing the real giants. In recent years we've had Barcelona, AC Milan and Manchester United at those stages. Do we have the foundations to challenge these teams consistently from Scotland? I think the answer is no.

No, and I can't see football ever going back to the way it was when we were able to compete, like it or not, football is now all about the money - for players and boards.

Obviously I would love it if we could compete against the best while conintuing to play in Scotland but I just can't see that happening although a lot of the negative points about playing in England would have to be addressed

    iinsurmountable.

we can use this term for anything we do in life.

kaka could have went to man city for example but chose not to.

Sometimes in life we have to look beyond the pound signs and trophies to do what is correct in life.

To Celtics greater good would be to Scotland's greater loss and as much as I am an avid Celtic fan, I'll am still Scottish.

To that I fear the future of not only of Scottish football but to the football supporters as well. We will end up like both Irish leagues where they support teams from out side there country.

We are going to get to a point when asked why we support the team we do. the answer will be because they are good.

Loyalty, local team the history will be gone for the majority of fans.

When I ask everybody in Ireland why they support an English team, they say it is because the league of Ireland is crap. It probably won't be long before the same thing is being asked of people in Scotland If Celtic and Rangers leave the SPL.

That already happens in the SPL, loads of fans from Aberdeen,Edinburgh and Dundee follow the OF instead of their local teams, It might happen more so if we leave the SPL fair enough but it still happens.
I understand peoples scottish sentiment but Im not scottish, I would love the scottish league that was a top class league but It will never happen in this day and age. When it comes to moving to the EPL, It benefits celtic too much to turn it down. I want the best for celtic and Im in favour every time.

its ok saying that mate but is it not up to the individual who he/she wants to support and spend money on?
i know what your saying but it just wont work like that ever! and the reason for that is teams who start out try and build their rep and when it gets big people notice them ,get curious ,go and see them for the 1st time then next you know it they have a good and big support! thats hoe celtic and the huns started, and of course religion played a part in that also!

see thats why i have a lot of respect for you mate! always talk sense on things like this and it makes good reading:50:

All very nice and romantic but you're skirting my question. Can we win the European Cup based in Scotland?

What you're asking, is do we want to do what it takes to win the European Cup? On the one hand we have a history and a duty to Scottish football but on the other we are a global brand. The marketing lingo goes - change or die - kill or be killed. And at the end of the day if you listen to non Old Firm fans/pundits/commentators in Scotland, you might find they don't even want us.

So what is correct in life?

[edit] By the way the "insurmountable" that I was referring to was the challenges we face going forward. None of these are insurmountable.

I think the atlantic league would be better all for us.i would rather play against teams like ajax n benfica massive clubs with great history, than * little clubs like bolton with * fanbase n next to nothing history.joining an epl 2 is only going to make the preimership stronger all round which i dont want to happen.i think after a good few years the atlantic league could be the best in the world.think of all the big clubs n the cash they will generate.you could have celtic, rangers, psv, ajax, feyernoord,fc bayern, porto, sporting, benfica, fenerbache, galatasaray, olympiakios, rosenborg, few more german & scandinavian teams.i think that would be the best league in the world, i know uefa said they wouldnt let any of the teams that joined an atlantic league into europe, who needs uefa with all these big clubs joined together?if this were to happen a lot more teams would follow suite n we could have 3 different divisions the more teams that join.teams like man united, chelsea, liverpool, are gettin to strong for there own good, they just have soo much money its about time we did something about it n got our act together n got this atlantic league thrashed out we shouldnt need to worry about the consequences of uefa.
