1967 is irrelevant as that was in the days that you could build a team from within a few miles of your club. Not the case now when you need a global reach.

The only reason we managed 2003 in my opinion was because for a short while we could compete with the money of the English, and also the miracle that is Henrik Larsson.

Throw in the fact that other leagues similar in size to us have an advantage in being able to bring in S.American and African talent, and you can truely see on just how many levels we are at a disadvantage in Scotland.

    1) The medium teams in the big leagues outspend us by far.
    2) The bigger teams in the medium leagues (not only outspend but) out-sign us.

right fair enough mate good point! but it wasnt larrson fc that got us to the final in 2003! we did have a solid team that played with heart and pride.

buddy it isnt about the money im like this!
or course i want to see celtic makeing millions upon millions who doesnt!
but its the other things i think we need assured if we do make the move like
    -
    travelling

    holiganism
if we would still represent scotland if we got into europe?
haveing to pay a ridiculous amount of money to join like 100m!
being bullied by all the english teams
    the safety of supporters
supporters having a right to voice there opinian and vote on it

its not about the money for me never has been,we have guys on here that think when we go down there we more or less can afford messi or kaka.

we will be in the bottom half of the epl and what top player will say to themselves go to celtic with no european football or go to the main epl with everything to go for. fans need to see all the other stuff surrounding this other than think about the dosh.

I am not saying we will get straight to a final but through, harder opposition, more money etc when we do get into Europe we will be in a lot better shape to have a crack at it than we are just now.

Money is now the be all and end all of football..sadly. You get the odd exception but not many. Newcastle have not got the worse team in the world its their off the pitch problems that make them so bad imo. Plus with Lawell in charge, going by his track record, you would have to think Celtic would spend wisely.

Doubt it, for advertising for Sky and other companies the EPL is the best in the world. In terms of football it is 1st or 2nd behind La Liga, if anything they will be putting more and more money into it. It used to be the odd game shown live on TV, then steadily a few more, then the 8 games or whatver shown on a CL night. Money went up in all of them.

so what happens when we go down there spend hellish amounts of wages on
players and then a few years down the line the sky bubble burst! and we are * with debt? itll be a little like the 90`s again. there is too much to think about just now:laptop loyal:

Why didn't they invite us to EPL straight away, and not second division? We deserve better, if such invitation is made.

You can't base a decision on 'what ifs'. Wether staying in the SPL or moving to the EPL at one point Celtic will need to take a gamble on the 'what ifs'. The Scottish league holds Celtic back. We need to moce forward.

Their isn't a logically way possible to revamp Scottish football. A bigger league, will just mean that the competition for relegation etc will be better. A cap on players etc will hinder us in Europe and defeat the purpose of making money. Scottish football has been in the dark ages for too long because of that, unless we see something drastic, they won't be able to catch up to the standard of other leagues. Imo.

then perhaps uefa, fifa should now come in and wage cap and also put a maximum on transfer fee`s then we wouldnt need to move out of scotland.

So what sit and wait till this happens (very unlikely while the moneys being made for those at the top)??

How about we grab the bull by the horns because that English top 4 is there for the taking.

how is there no? so you want celtic to leave scottish football a place where we have played since the day we started
and just depart with 2 fingers aimed at it?

we can revamp the scottish leagues! ffs france done it and look at them now. it can be done and must be done! beleive in it and we will deliver a better scottish football product.

I admire your belief in the Scottish system but it's been treading water for decades. France isn't a great example as they are a country with 65 million people where as we have only 5 million. Their entire lifestyle and school system is completely different to ours. We can never compete with the French league which is probably the 5th largest in the World - this is a league that brought Zidane, Henry, Petit etc etc etc to the fore.

The bottom line is, however well that football is developed in this country we will simply never be able to compete with the top 5-10 leagues. We have been agonisingly close to European glory of late - and that was in ideal circumstances, punching above our weight.

There is not enough value in the Scottish game to sustain a club with the ambition to be the best in the World.

We would still be a Scottish team and we are a big enough team to withhold our Scottish identity even down in England. The Scottish League has been good to us but they have had years to improve it but haven't and we can't afford to wait. France have a great Youth system in place and still spend more money than we do, by far..Suggest a way to revamp Scottish football. As others have said I admire your ideas but in reality they can't work.

Is it true that IF this were to go through and we DID qualify for a European place we would not be allowed to enter??

I am sure the OF would make sure they would be allowed to enter as one of the main reasons of moving is to progess in Europe, so not being allowed to play would defeat the purpose.

    No, that's not true.

This all sounds very good, but have you got any suggestions as to how this would be done?

Do you want Celtic FC to give their profits away to the rest of the SPL so as the standard of the league increases? How else does one club "deliver a better Scottish football product."

Again, it all sounds good, but it's a load of hot air really and would be completely impractical.
