This is how it feels to be Celtic
Some folk on here have to consider that the O'Donnell family are grieving, the Celtic players (and some Rangers players no doubt), the Celtic backroom staff, the groundsmen, the kitchen staff and even the tea lady as well as most of us Tims are upset by what happened. He was one of our own and the postponing of the game, although disappointing because we were all looking forward to it, gives people time to get over the grieving process without having to think of football.
Any * who finds this inconvenient, then tough.
    Get a * life.

To be honest there was no way this game was goanny go ahead, and quite rightly so. I think we were all looking forward to it but at the end of the day no one can complain about it. As many of you have already said there are more important things in life than football.

And yes it might work in our favour as we are playing well and it would give our new bhoys time to settle in and of course McGeady. But although there things are true, people should not be forgetting that they're all just side issues. The game is being postponed as a mark of respect for a man who gave 5 years of his life for our club, so get your priorities straight if they are not already.

I am a little disapointed but glad they are tring to honour O'Donnell's memory in some way. I guess it's not really the tradition over here to cancel totally unrelated games as a sign of respect. As I said in another thread. If it was a game against Motherwell or on their ground or something, then I would understand but canceling an unrelated game doesn't seem to make as much sense to me.
Also since I will be back in classes by the time they play the match again, I will proly end up not being able to watch it as a result of the time it is broadcast over here. I was really looking forward to finally being able to watch an OF game but can't afford to cut class to do so. I know that sounds cold but as I say, I guess I am just not used to the concept of canceling other teams matched as a sign of respect for another team's player. At least they are doing something to honour the guy though, so I'm gonna suck up my disapointment and be happy with the hoops decision and showing that they care.

Don't get me wrong now, I was as shocked as any to hear of his death - especially at such a young age. What I'm giving out about is the people who effectively 'cash in' on it by pretending to be all high and mighty. Like I said, I was shocked by Phil's passing, and I feel deeply sorry for his family and close friends, but I'm not upset. I didn't know the guy. Some people on here are going on as if they were best mates with the lad.

My other point was that cancelling the game "as a mark of respect" is bollocks. It's like wearing a black arm band, it's just empty, token behaviour.

I'm glad Celtic asked for a postponement,it's the decent thing 2 do for a decent young man, if we didn't at least try never mind get a p/ponment, it would have been a poor show by the club.

Also, wookie, regarding that "cancer" thing, I had to do and Advanced Search for my username and 'caner' to even see what you were drivelling on about mate. Finally found some silly one line post of mine saying I hoped 2 bigots died of cancer. Boo * hoo.

I'm sorry to hear about your father, but it's not like I'm going to pause a second before posting and think "wait... what if wookie's dad has cancer?". Half my family have died from it, I can still recognise a joke.

CELTIC captain Stephen McManus today applauded the decision by the SPL to postpone Wednesday's Old Firm game.
The defender admitted it would be just too painful to play so soon after the death of former Celtic player Phil O'Donnell.
McManus, along with former Motherwell striker Scott McDonald, had joined the hundreds who visited Fir Park yesterday to pay their respects to the 35-year-old who died during Saturday's game against Dundee United.
After a meeting held today between Celtic's management and players, the Parkhead club made a formal application for a postponement
The Spl immediately approached Rangers, and they agreed to the postponement. A new date will be arranged after the clubs, police and Setanta - who had planned to show the match live - have been consulted.
A spokesman for the Spl confirmed: "The game has been postponed, but the three other matches scheduled for Wednesday will go ahead."
McManus - who was a close family friend of O'Donnell - believes it is the correct thing to do.
He said: "Having met this morning as a group for the first time since Phil's death, the Celtic team, management and backroom staff feel very strongly that our match on Wednesday should be postponed as a mark of our sincere respect for Phil O'Donnell, a great player and a great man.
"A number of our squad have very close connections to Phil's family and feel it would be inappropriate to proceed with this match at such a time, following such a tragic event.
"We understand sincerely the inconvenience and frustration a postponement would cause supporters of both teams, particularly those who travel long distances to games - and we fully respect the views of all fans on this matter.
"However, we feel that this would be the only correct decision. I hope that supporters would understand our position in such circumstances."
Manager Gordon Strachan fully supports the move and said: "Phil's second club was probably Celtic friends-wise and the reaction, when the news came through the other day, you knew he had a lot of close friends here because I don't think I've seen a reaction like that in football.
"We've had legendary figures dying on us but at an older age. For a young man to be taken away...
"I think we are all trying to get our heads round the fact he has got four kids and a young wife."
Rangers Chief Executive Martin Bain explained the Ibrox club were more than happy to agree to the postponement.
He said: "Due to the tragic circumstances we had no objections to this request and we abide by the SPL's decision to reschedule the game."
Before the decision was announced, Rangers boss Smith had made it clear he felt calling the game off was what everyone wanted.
He said: "If it was a personal choice, we would not be playing. You can't think of playing at a time like this.
"Obviously it is a very difficult time for everyone, especially Phil O'Donnell's family."
The SPL have already called off Motherwell's match away to Hibs on Jan 2 and their home game with Celtic on Jan 6 while Gretna's game at Fir Park against St Mirren on Wednesday is also postponed.
Wednesday's matches involving Aberdeen v Inverness, Dundee United v Hearts and Kilmarnock v Falkirk will go ahead as planned.

There you go, almost everyone at both clubs wanted the game off, so it's off

I sent PMs to some of you but its still not getting through I feel.

Please don't attack other members for their views on either side. Post your opinion of the cancellation and honor Phil. If we attack others for their opinions no matter how you view their morality it will do us no good. All it will create is conflict in this trying time for a large majority of the celtic community. No one likes their morality questioned.

Attacking and abusing other Celts is not a way to honor.

Again, not to sound cold but have they decided what date the OF match is going to be re-schedualed for?

You dont have to be best mates with someone to be affected by a tragedy.
If you feel cancelling the game is an empty gesture, tough.Read the qoutes from Mick etc, they dont feel its"bollocks"as you so eloquently put it.
