the majority i know.. put it this way if it was a minority who sang them then they would soon be booed down.. heres an idea.. all you hand-wringing tabloid readers who detest something that Celtic fans have done for years hate our fans singing the rebels that much then boo it or sing another specific song.. if the majority dont want rebels then it will soon stop! LET THE PEOPLE SING!!!!!!!!!!!!! :celt_2:

The majority at Celtic Park dont sing at all, never mind just the rebs.

I am yet to hear someone complain about them in the stands, probably because the rebs are belted out in full voice with pride

I'm sick to death of Celtic fans bringing this up, again and again. These made up debates are only to divide the support and deflect some of the attention away from the huns for singinig their vile hate filled songs. If Uefa ever punish us for singing "up the Ra" then I'll seriously consider not singing it until that time the scottish media can f*ck off. We will never be punished by Uefa for singing these songs as they are not offensive!

i'm not complaining I just want you to make sure of the facts before you start, Celtic fans will not boo their own supporters choice of song and you know that. If people dont like to hear rebel songs at CP that is their perogative and it doesnt make them any less of a Celtic supporter than anybody else.In conclusion I will state again that its not a majority of Celtic supporters giving it rebel but if people want to sing them thats fair enough

Im pretty sure Ueffa have approved the songs we sing. If they hadn't im sure we would have had a few warnings by now.

I was singing about 4 rebel songs tonight in the ground and no one said a word to me. The anti Rebel brigade need to man up and stop these filthy sectarian songs. Because if we aren't stopped the Daily Record and the BBC might criticise us. :fear::56:

All Celtic supporters that I know personally don't have a problem with them, I don't know why people find them offensive and it's obvious the club won't get into trouble from Uefa, so what is the reason they need to be stopped when they are regularly sung and have become part of our tradition?

I dont find them offensive at all, i just feel that people who dont know the history or are quite ignorant could assosiate those songs with the secterian problem in glasgow ( in my opinion its just rangers) and i dont want to be lumped into that as a celtic supporter. But I guess you are right as long as uefa dont have a problem with them, hopefully the scottish media will recongise that those songs are secterian and don't have "offensive" meaning behind them.

The scottish media will never recognise it.. * them anyway, & if anyone is uneducated on what we sing about them * them too..its sad to see some of our own supporters believing the bullshit wrote about our clubs fans.. they have been magnificent & should be getting nothing but praise.. especially when you look at the shower of * animals behaviour across the city & around the Country too!!
Ive not been to an away game in years with living over here but i appreciate the songs & noise being generated by our away support it booms out the TV whenever you watch a game & im proud that we have such a great & politically aware support.

Football is a working mans sport & where the working class man gets to let out his frustrations & let off steam.. & these * wanting to turn it into an experience like going to the * theater need to get too *!

Hail Hail & tiocfaidh ár lá!!

    well said that man :50:

no doubt those who disagree with the singing of the rebels at games are also the ones who dont join in with the songs anyway.

    DOCKED POINTS

    It will come.
Imagine the scene, we win the league by 5 points but somebody complains about our songs. They are listened to. We get done fined and docked 6 points. Somebody else wins the league. Is it worth singing???????? Is it *

Started reading the whole thread, got to this one and burst out laughing.

It's true and it hits the nail on the head.

Very clever of the legislation to use the word 'offensive' rather than 'sectarian'. I'm assuming 'offensive sectarian' singing will be dealt with twice as harshly?

    Don't be so facitous timmy.

    Got it in one mate.

Offensive is much different to Sectarian. People need to take note of the wording...

Why is that so many people who are pro-Republican songs think they are the only ones who join in the singing? I join in with all songs apart from the Republican ones, it doesn't make me any less of a Celtic fan no matter what is implied by others (and I'm not stating you here).

As I stated earlier these songs divide our own support, they aren't sectarian and just because someone may be offended by a song is not reason to ban them, however, there is only one thing that unites every single Celtic fan and that is Celtic Football Club, not Ireland, not Republicanism, not politics, not religion, just Celtic so I think we should concentrate on the songs that unite us, not the songs that divide us.

These songs have been sung for decades though, the only reason are wanting them stopped is because the media portray them as offensive/sectarian.

I enjoy singing the rebels at Celtic matches, i dont know why fellow fans want me to stop singing songs my dad & grandad sung at games, and brought me up to sing.

That's not my reason as I've now stated twice in this thread and I don't know how many other times in other threads.

I don't think they are sectarian.

A song offending someone is not reason enough to ban it.

They do however divide our own support and we should be concentrating on being a united support.

Where I sit less people join in the singing of the Rebels compared to the other songs.

However that is the personal reasons of yourself. The full reasons behind this is what Paddy stated.
