I've mentioned this before when discussing signing Bodo players, where a majority of them have failed at other clubs. It's not the players ability or their lack of talent, in my opinion but the clubs in which they transfer too.

Edouard moved to Palace under Viera, who tried to play possession based football. As soon as that had a hint of going wrong, they punted Viera and moved back to Hodgson, who wanted to lump the ball up to a striker. That sort of football is never going to appeal to someone like Eddy. As you said, same for Hooper. Wanted the move to the Premier League but he chose someone like Norwich, who could barely create a chance. And even then, he still scored some goals for them in the Premier League.

I get why players want the move to the Premier League. To get the big wages and play against the best players in the world but they need to be smarter when doing it. I can, at least, she why Eddy went to Palace under Viera, who was trying to change the way they played.

As I said above, you see it with Bodo players. Look into the players who have failed and there's a trend of them picking the wrong moves at the wrong time. Solbakken to Roma under Mourinho, the most defensive minded coach in world football. Not the right move. Berg moving to Lens, who never had the ball and played on the counter attack. Never going to work. You see some success, though. Moumbagna moving to Marseille, who always create chances, had a good start to his career in France, scoring a few goals. Vetlesen has had a good seasonin Belgium with Club Brugges and of course, Victor Boniface moved to Belgium with USG before getting his big move to Germany with Leverkusen.

Players are taking the big step far too early in my opinion. That's where I want to see Celtic sliding in. Players like Gronbaek, who are going to be well sought after, need a step before they go to the bigger leagues and teams like Celtic, Salzburg, Anderlecht, USG, Club Brugges Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV is where that next step should be. A bigger team, who tend to be more dominant in their league.

Surely there is no chance they get £20m for him. He only has a year left on his contract and he wasn't starting for them last season after Glasner came in.

Going to be honest with you mate, I disagree there.

Better strikers than Edouard have moved on from the Premier League for less than £20m.

Who do you think is better than Edouard that has moved on for less than £20m?

Just a couple of examples this season.

Villa sold Cameron Archer to Sheffield Utd for €21.5m. Newcastle got €17.5m for Chris Wood and he's 32 years old.

£20m doesn't get an established first team goalscoring striker.

Crystal Palace are willing to listen to offers for striker Odsonne Edouard this summer.

The South London Press understands the Eagles value the Frenchman at around £20million and will be looking to bring another forward in to help supplement Oliver Glasner’s squad.

Palace splashed an initial £14m on Edouard in September 2021 from Celtic, with the ex-PSG youngster signing a four-year deal at Selhurst Park.

Edouard netted 88 goals in 179 appearances for Celtic, winning 11 trophies during his time in Glasgow.

The 26-year-old has featured 101 times for Palace and netted 21 times, but he found his place in the starting line-up limited under former Wolfsburg boss Glasner due to Jean-Philippe Mateta establishing himself as the clear first choice stiker

Mateta scored 13 goals in 13 games under Glasner, with Edouard only starting once – the 3-0 win over Burnley – after he replaced Roy Hodgson

Ex-Mainz forward Mateta could potentially be away for the start of the Premier League season after he was named as one of three overage players in Thierry Henry’s France Olympic squad.

Edouard scored seven Premier League goals last season.

No chance of him returning. We need to be realistic. He is on three times what we can offer and we would need to shatter the Scottish signing record to get him. It isn't happening so let's move on. He will be off to Saudi or some other country handing out mad contracts.

I'd be astonished if they got £20m with 1 year left.

    £20m?

We'll pick him up for nothing next summer, cheers.

I'd love to have him back and IMO he's better than Kyogo; but I wouldn't want Celtic to pay £20 million for any 26-year old.

Agreed. He hasn't been a bad signing for them but he certainly hasn't set the heather on fire either.

Don't think we'll be spending a fraction of what a lot of people seem to be hoping for reading some of these threads.

You won’t need to worry about us spending £20m on him mate. We will be lucky if we spend £20m this summer in total.

Pretty sure we'll spend this summer, mate. If MOR goes as we all expect, we'll basically need half a team minimum (GK, LB, CB, AM, Striker (Idah?). We can usually be relied upon to build from a position of weakness.

Not keen on going back in for players who have left. Glad this rumour will just be paper talk

Can’t help but think it was weird to have him at our player of the year awards. Hopefully something going in behind the scenes as i’d love to have him back.
