I would like to think you are correct Dempsey, that the debt will be eliminated soon thus putting us in a better position to 'buy big'. Somehow though i have a feeling that the board are already arming themselves with excuses in readiness for that very situation.

More likely than not we will be told that the proposed cost of the new academy has spiralled high-sky a-la the New Scottish Parliament debacle.......The initial £5-8million estimated cost being a conservative estimate, the true cost now is £2billion....We have to cut our cloth accordingly to meet the cost.....Or some similar waffle along those lines. An exaggeration i know, but you get my drift no doubt.

The money men want to increase the profit margins, but not so as to buy players. Just my thoughts.

not arguing that roy keane of the 98/99 season for man utd would have been an unbelievable asset to the club this season in the champions league but thats not a player we ever had! what was keanes longest run of continuous matches in a celtic shirt? the very reason he retired was because by his own admission he was nowhere near the player he once was because he was too old and therefore not physically up to performing at the top level. again if he had been he would have been a massive loss to the club when he left but the fact that we never had this player in our side in my opinion makes it that little bit harder to miss him. also did he actually win man of the match in half those games and 2nd best in the others? i dont actually know whether or not he did but i suspect you're talking pish, particularly considering you therefore think he did rather well against clyde? also i form my opinions on players from my experiance of going to the games or watching them on tele if they're away games or don't involve celtic or scotland not by reading what "people who know something about soccer" have to say

Roy Keane retired because of a long term hip injury not because he was too old. He had that injury for years at United, not just when he came to Celtic.

can you honestly say if it wasnt roy keane you would be going on about him so much? if it was any other 33 year old midfielder who came in for the 2nd half of the season, missed as many games as he played through injury and then left i for one would not be crying out about how much we would miss him. i'm not saying he wasnt a world class player but he never showed it at celtic therefore you cant miss what you never had.

I hate Keane for the Saipan incident, but I'm not stupid enough to think he was a bad player, at 34 he was still better than 99% of our squad last season. After he came in, we went from 2nd to 1st by 20+ points. Playing or not, his influence and attitude was phenomenial

He was worth the contract for the above mentioned qualities alone.
