Not Actually that Crucial a Summer as of August 2023...beginning to now think everything isnt fine!

I think he would have been a great signing. The board obviously didn't want to pay 6m for a player and pay 50k a week for someone with no sell on.

 

I'm in two minds as to how I feel about this summer.

1. Rodgers coming in was supposed to be a statement. He's a quality EPL-level manager after all. And we were going to back him with some 7-10m players, with the intention of kicking on in Europe.

2. Obviously the above didn't happen, but apart from losing Starfelt (Nawrocki and Phillips look like good replacements) and Jota (time will tell re replacements), we've not lost any of our stars. It's too early to tell if any of the new signings are duds, and some have shown promise already. Would have liked a GK and a LB, but I'm hoping that comes in January.

So all said, I think we're a left back and keeper away from a very good squad. Obviously I'd love a quality CDM and a quality back-up striker, but those are hard to come by. I think most of us are guilty of forgetting what pond Celtic are fishing in when it comes to transfers.

 

I think the major fear/risk is that failure to recruit a new LB/GK will cost us is in Europe. January could be too late. And if that happens, a lot of us will be justifiably * off in a big way given that it’s been obvious for a while we had to upgrade in those two areas (I would add CDM to that list as well as you have alluded to).

 

Agreed, though I feel we would have signed a LB had Rodgers really wanted one. Taylor had been playing very well for us, so my feeling is Rodgers thought he was the man for the job.

 

I struggle with the idea that Rodgers didn’t want one. If he didn’t, we’re in trouble as it’s clear for a blind man to see we need one.

 

The board got us 3 CB-s, yet no LB or GK, with very few rumors for either position. To me, this seems like Rodgers' choice.

 

Seems he likes Joe, and maybe believes there’s something there in Bernabei with all the opportunities he’s giving him

So glaring and affirmed last night..

 

Yep and I was desperate for an injection of pace in the side and we absolutely haven't got that..

Also wanted a winger in on the right with Jota staying and two when he left of real quality. Looks like we've only got the one and he doesn't have any pace..

We're left with Abada who for me was never good enough to be our fully starting right winger and now he's injured we've got the likes of Maeda going over there who just doesn't really have that finesse for that position particularly..

 

Sick of talking about it to be honest.

Rodgers can put up a brave face, but internally he’s got to be * fuming.

 

I can't see how this can be viewed by some as anything other than neglect or lack of ambition by the board.

The figures published are not a shock to the money men so we have been well aware we are sitting on a pile of cash knowing full well the first team was screaming for investment. The fans as usual have pumped money into the club via season tickets and what feels like a new strip every other month.

Sound like a broken record but our unwillingness to properly invest in the squad is one of the reasons Ange left.

We have then pushed the boat out for Rodgers hoping his reputation for improving players can bridge the gap on what we want to spend.

Our strongest 11 right now is weaker than our strongest 11 from last season which is complete neglect.

Until we stop feeding the club money then nothing will change.

 

It seems the only people who didn't realize this was the recruitment department. I suppose we did sign a DM(Kwon) but unfortunately he looks about as much use as a chocolate kettle. I can not remember a worse transfer-window for us and with so much going for us beforehand too. It's so bad it almost feels like sabotage.

 

Yeah, an absolute disgrace that NONE of these positions were looked at seriously. Apart from the happy clappers most on here were begging for these signings the entire window. And it only took 1 game against a substandard Feyenoord to prove us right.

There was a wee lift amongst the fan base because we beat the huns but that abomination of a window should not be forgotten about.

Like others I'm sick and tired of talking about it. Gross negligence, plain and simple. It's only because the huns are a joke right now that they're being afforded any leeway at all.

I seriously cannot wait for the day DD hangs it up and takes all of his * cronies with him. Just hope it's sooner rather than later. We desperately need an ambitious board or we'll continue to be the whipping boys in Europe and slip further into mediocrity.

 

Pretty much all of those leagues and countries have far more appeal for players sadly.

 

It's a question of did Rodgers demand these positions bolstered, and didn't get them, or if he didn't demand signings there at all. We found players to bolster the CB position, and several wingers. I have a hard time believing we had no LB on our scouting list, at least a Korean/Japanese one.

 

By the way, criticism of the window in relation to last night's result is a bit irrational. The wall set up was poor for the first goal and two red cards (the first wasn't even a foul) killed us. Plus we had a lot of players out with injury.

 

A dissapointing transfer window reflected in results in big games, when will we learn.
The board only wants us to be marginally better than the scum and not actually holding our own in the CL.

Taylor couldn't even pass to a teamate last night, especially in the 1st half..

Hart was as slow as a week in the jail getting across his goal..

We were weak in the middle of the park too, signed a DM in Kwon that didn't even make the CL squad..
