He did because his last job was Leicester who he got relegated. Ok he wasn't actually in charge when they finally went down but the damage was done under him. He needed to get his career moving in a positive direction again and that is why he is here.

The glaring deficiencies in our squad have been evident since the beginning of the window.. probably been said in this thread hundreds of time.

I genuinely felt this summer would be different all the signs were positive since then Ange has left, Jotas left and we keep reading we're ready to spend millions but still yet to see it

Like others have said no more projects, it’s first team quality that we need, and needed it 4/6 weeks ago.

The signs have been there, the same old, plenty of time, wait and see etc. Naw it’s down to the management, I mean I’m not really one of these conspiracy theorists people but since we have had Lawwell Snr back especially in the last year he’s been at the forefront of loads and even front and centre at public events etc…… And this summer when we should be adding from a position of strength……..

I mean I could be totally wrong to be fair but something needs said because we have been caught with our pants down again when we should have had quality in already.

I still do think we will spend big in what is left of the window I just don't think Rodgers comes back without guarantees of it considering how it ended first time around

Been saying it for weeks and just get called a panic merchant. But even the happy clappers with the green tinted specs on can see it now.

Fannying about in the market has cost us a trophy already. We are weaker than last year and probably will be window shuts now too. Our best player was sold and not replaced, our second best player couldn’t get a start and is now injured and our 2 best defenders are injured.

If it’s not signings in the bracket of Tierney/Podence etc then it will be a right slog of a season with a poor Rangers team running us close.

I always genuinely say at the start of every campaign that I don't give a * about the cups and I'm serious. Yeah it's lovely winning trebles and all but the league is the bread and butter.

That game gave us a good look at the areas of the field we really struggled in and where we can and must strengthen. I'm thankful there was no points up for grabs today.

On a side note......plastic pitches need banned.

Be lucky if we sign 2 or 3, when we need 5 or 6. Only so many projects you can sign and expect to come straight in to the first team and make an impact.

€16m euro profit we've made in the window so far.

Only one player costing €5m (about £4.5m).

    Others range between 1-3.5m

None of our signings have remotely broken the bank.

Every single one of them, we are hoping are an unearthed gem that will sell for a profit.

23 years old is the oldest player we've signed, most are 20 or 21.

Do not be fooled for a moment, we are signing projects and hoping to pad the balance sheet.

Ange first season, we signed four 26 year olds and a 34 year old keeper. Immediately impacted the side, brought experience and settled the side massively.

Is it so much to ask, that we just go sign some ready made players who will instantly improve the side?

The fact there was a Giakoumakis and a Juranovic out there is amazing and shows the talent at a fair price is available!

Reckon we sign 1 other around the 3mil mark and a loan to buy.

We need much more tho as we have * all creativity in the team in a tightly packed game like today.

P.s where are all the happy clappers???

Clearly wants players but doesn't sound overly hopeful does he?

5 at least but we’re back to doing stuff at a glacial pace so it’ll be 1 or 2 at a push

    I was never convinced.

I've seen no evidence to suggest it would be anything other than same old.

Look at who makes up our board, it's exactly the same characters who brought us the jakey in the shower. They're all still in place. There's been a bit of musical chairs but the main characters are all still there in some capacity.

And in my view, we didn't actually do anything particularly spectacular in the transfer window when Ange was here. We basically just did what should be the bare minimum. We just conducted matters more professionally and efficiently. I won't be giving them credit for this until I see it over a sustained period of time, otherwise it just looks like an outlier.

The reality is that we went into this window with an unimaginable advantage. We've no tricky qualifiers to worry about, we've guaranteed Champions League income, having previously secured CL riches the season before, we're cash rich and on the back of another huge transfer fee with the sale of Jota.

We should have nailed down all the problem positions by now. Absolutely no excuses.

And yet here we are. We've started a new season with an even worse squad than last season.

Where else in world football would this be allowed to happen over and over and over again?

It’s going down to the last day now.

We know what we need but getting it is another thing.

Things is it was clear as day for the last month or so what was needed( longer cause * said what we needed last season too!) not till now and out the cup with a dreadful performance and less than two weeks of the window left to address these issues.

    Goalkeeper
    Right back
    Left back
Centre back (on loan to replace Welsh for a few months)
    Powerhouse central midfielder
Left winger (as quickly as possible)
    Right winger

Absolutely * no chance we get all that done.

It's as if some people realise we are stretching away from the rest and decide we can't have that as it's not good for business. The Resolution 12 agreement and giving NL the manager's job in the showers spring to mind

I think we'll get 3 of these done then look to the January window for the rest.

Said earlier, I think we'll be fine in the league, buy it's not going to be pretty in Europe.
