Seems extremely farfetched considering at this point yesterday we hadn’t lodged a formal offer for a striker.

If you're waiting on us making 4 signings you've got a long wait. Try coming back in here in January.

Must be a Hjelde replacement. See the good thing about these deals now. He can go get experience in the B team for a season

Kid should stay put if he's getting 1st team games. He'll end up papped in some reserve team for 5 seasons if he moves.

Only thing about that is if he plays well DU will be looking for 5m or so in a year or two.. No against getting young Scottish talent and train them up..

The other night 5 academy players played against AZ.. definitely the way to go

Definitely and I would like him, just saying if I was giving him advice it would be to stay there and get first team games for a few seasons. Will do far more for his development than going to a bigger club and being papped in the unders.

I suppose there could be two trains of thought on that..

    1. He gets first team experience with an average side , training with average players in average facilities but as you said he's playing better opposition every week

    2. He won't get first team but reserve experience but will train with better players better coaches in better facilities and better career path

Another factor is I'm sure Celtic will offer him a far better financial package for his troubles..

Personally I think its a no brainer to Join Celtic..

I think first team exposure at a decent level, which he is at will serve him better in the grand scheme of things. If he's good the money will follow. He's only 16, no rush. If he was my boy I would be telling him to stay put for now but yeah, selfishly I would like him to come to us. .

This is how i always look at it & would do the same.
If we had a B team in the leagues it may be different advice.

Mentioned it in the Dundee Utd thread.

He’s supposed to be an incredible talent. Man Utd have already tried to sign him.

Signing him to play in the Lowland League will do absolutely nothing for his development though.

But training with Celtics first team at our facilities and coaches would.. I get both points of the argument..

If he's this highly rated as pointed out he will have no problem in the future either way..

It sounds as if DU want to cash in and this might be our only opportunity to get him at a reasonable price

It's an interesting age and prospect of what to do with him, in terms of best for development.

I'm not overly sold on the b squad yet, they definitely need to confirm that the b squads can get promotion to the professional leagues for me.
Even limited to league 2 and 1 (although I've personally prefere two professional leagues that are bigger but that's another conversation).

If we know that players are able to get that level of experience, it would make some good sense for me, to sign a 16 or 17 year old from United (or wherever) and then get experience at a reasonable level for his age.

However I'd be inclined to think he would get better development for the next year or two playing regular for United, than he would at our b squads (albeit coaches and facilities are better).

However, after a year or two playing in the top division for United, it would be completely backwards for him to then play b squad games against East Kilbride and the likes.
Much like it's somewhat backwards watching Luca connell and the likes going from regular English championship to part time plumbers.

I'd be inclined to sign him on a 5 year deal with a loan straight back to United for the first season.
Then judge where he's at, extend the loan at 17 or send him somewhere else (if United went down for example) and then at 18, be bringing him in to be our rotation player.

I guess I'm just not convinced yet that the b squad at the lowland leagues is good enough experience for these lads.
Not when there is first team football in the top flight available

Definitely looks a talent. At the right price, he’s definitely worth a punt.

That said, it’s potentially best for all involved to sign him, but leave him on loan at Dundee Utd for the rest of the season.

Think that would be the ideal scenario. Even a two year loan would be a good move. My feeling is he will move down south anyway so prob not something we'll need to worry about.

Aye, if we do sign the young Dundee United boy I'd leave him there for a season or 2,provided they still had him playing regularly, there's always the possibility they give him less time if he's not their player.

Sign him for 500k or a million and give them a 30% sell on?

In theory, 500k is very little to us, but if he turned out good and went for 10-15million in 3 years time, then United get another 3-5million for him and we pocket 7-10 million - we then insert the 20% sell on again and get another 5 million if he was to then be sold again for the big bucks.

    Everyone's somewhat covered then?

Or if we signed him for 500k and he flipped, we sell him for 1-2million and basically make all our money back on him and United still get a couple extra hundred grand out of it.

Would be best for all concerned, surely? (And in that mean time loan him yes to United for a year or two).

Edit: sorry this went on a ramble and massive tangent.

My mind was starting to think what would happen if we bought him, what that value would look like at 16 years old to be fair to both parties, and then what happens if he flopped.

It would certainly be in United interest to further continue his development then.

Sign him and loan him back.

    Pretty simple.
