Bent has done well scoring the amount he has for the teams he has played for.

£15m would be acceptable IMO... £20-24m is too steep.

No Way is he a 18Million Pound player, Especially for Villa £18m could be spent better elsewhere.

Don't think it's anything like that because we're giving cheaper examples of EPL players. It just seems there's a very high premium for English players in the EPL. It's not just Bent it just so happens that Bent is the latest. I'm still stunned Ozil went for half the money James Milner went for.

As for Bent he flopped at Spurs and despite scoring 13 goals that didn't save Charlton from relegation so goals obviously aren't the be all and end all.

Actually read a good article illustrating that despite his goals teams tend to suffer a bit having to play his way. Even at Sunderland you seem a much better team this season playing Gyan and Wellbeck upfront. Guess we'll just have to see what happens at Villa.

Reckon they'd still be in the top 6. Was reading a Villa forum earlier and couldn't believe some of their thoughts on the MON era.

I think some people have an over-inflated sense of worth of the league their team resides in to be honest.

Anyway, the long and short of it is, Darren Bent isn't worth £24 million by a long, long way.

bent is never worth that! and the epl have went dumb * on overspending on players and wages cos sky gives them too friggin much to an overhyped league. yes the league is good but not the best and as long as there are muppets in the english game forking out scandolous and sickening amounts on average to good players? then football in general is gonna die a slow agonising death.

To be honest this was the kind of thing people were saying about Serie A in the 90's

Most people have something against the EPL because it has been built buy TV and rich foreign billionaires who see the clubs as toys.

Scotland does well to keep a professional league as there is hee haw money involved.

Darren Bent is a good goal scorer, but he failed at Spurs and is now going to a club in the mire for 18 million. That would not happen anywhere else in the world.

The fact guys like Ozil and Khedira moved for less than James Milner makes me laugh.

Value a player...and if he is english, double it (just realised i wrote this on the carroll thread!!). Not the players fault but it is not right.

Bent is worth that fee, based on how he scores in the prem

its 18 not 24 bare in mind.

Bent didnt flop at Tottenham at all. Please dont say stuff if youve no idea what ya talking about. He was a sub most of the time man.

And Bent went to the bench because he wasn't playing well. There's no way Tottenham spent their then-club-record amount on a player with the intention of sitting him on the bench.

He flopped at Tottenham. You don't pay £16M for someone to sit on the bench, he was on the bench because he wasn't good enough.

It rises to £24M if Villa stay up so it's pretty much guaranteed to be £24M. If you disagree fair enough but don't patronise us saying we don't know what we're talking about. Any Spurs fan you ask will tell you he was a complete flop.

He didn't flop though. He was behind Defoe,Berbatov and Keane in the pecking order. Back then, that was no shameful thing. Plus, they changed management a couple of times during his time there.

Start of 08/09 season Berbatov, Defoe and Keane had gone and he still failed to take his chance.

Hes not worth 24 million a would say more like 15 million but if he scores as maney as he did last season then maybe he will be worth that amount of money he never got a chance at spurs just like keano this season

Yeh but it was Juande Ramos at the start of that season. Harry must think his Mrs is worth £50M in comparison :56:

Maybe Ramos didnt want him neither. Given that it was Jol that bought him. At the end of the day, Thats spurs for you. Paying that money and not making him a regular fixture in their starting side. Having said that and considering that, he done well to score what he did from the bench. Sunderland that sort of paid money for him and made him a key player. That's the managers and team decision. Wouldn't say he flopped but the reason why he wasn't a good investment is because he never started enough. For a multitiude of reasons.

Ok, so, why has successive England managers turned their nose up at him as well?

He simply isn't the player you think he is, not even worth half the figure being discussed.

    come off it.

because he was never regularly playing at Spurs. They didnt fancy many players. Kevin Phillips being one. I haven't said he is 'the' player or anything of the sort yet you seem to think i am bigging him and the epl up. Which I am not. He is worth that money going by epl spending patterns.

I have watched him for a year and a half. I am in a good place to talk.
