mmm it does seem abit * up when you put it in that perspective, although no other club in their right mind would have let vdv go for 10m, just moneys not an obstacle for madrid, he must be worth round 25m vdv.

    Van Der Vaart - £8-9M

    Bent - £18-24M

EPL is for mugs to shop in.

True. Madrid have lost a lot of money on a lot of players.

He actually cost 8 million, 10 million less than Bent is going for. And it's not like he's been there for 5 years. Also one could make the point that Bent can't do it when the pressure's on. Look at what he did at Tottenham when they spent big money on him... he was hardly banging them in for fun.

Elmander was 10 million, replacement for Anelka

he was shocking in his first couple of seasons but has hung about and doing ok now. but a different player altogther.

he was never a regular starter for spurs, mostly on the bench- going on that, his record there is good.

155 Goals in 365 career games. 66 of those games were sub appearences.

In the league he is in, with the teams he has played for, bearing in mind the prices of other players within that league I think he is worth it.

Over-inflated, same as all English talent in the Premiership.

yeah, going on the prices of other players is probably worth it. It's a scale thing.

    VDV - less than 10
    Pienaar - 3
    Affeley - less than 3

A potential transfer of 24 million for a guy that can't get anywhere near the England 11 is ridiculous.

you've picked three unusual deals delilberately there to be honest.

Pienaar goes because either Everton want/need the cash
VDV- Real probs wanted rid if he wasn't guna figure for them
Affellay- Probs the same as Pienaar, maybe he was coming to an end of a deal.

These are not true reflections and I think people know that. Based on the prices that players go for in the EPL, Darren Bent is worth that money

Darren Bent is not worth 24 million quid in any way, shape or form and never will be.

I think you know that yourself. It's almost as farcical as the deals you love to slate in transfer rumours.

I could pick any deal from any club that has come from a foreign country for a foreign player and it would look like a bargain vs Bent for that amount of money.

Going by the prices that EPL players go for, Darren Bent is worth this money.

I don't slate those actually. Not at all. I just give my view- mostly that players wont come to celtic when they could go somewhere else.

Thing with that bargains point is that they players are unproven, Bent is proven PL goalscoring class.

I'm with Hammer. There's much better value out there though. Tonnes of examples but from this summer Hernandez reportedly cost United £6-8M, Van Persie at the time cost Arsenal £2.5M.

    they weren't proven PL goalscorers.

I think what you have to get over is, the EPL isn't the league you seem to think it is.

The fact guys like; Henry, Van Nistelrooy, Bergkamp, Cantona, Di Canio, VanPersie, Eduardo, Hernandez, Gyan etc etc etc can all come into the league and score consistently shows that you it doesn't take £24 million to buy a goalscorer.

Gary Hooper would score goals in the EPL, you can see that quite clearly.

I think a lot of people have something against England and the EPL!

I don't need to get over anything, you've changed the subject right away from what we're talking about there. Why?!

it's 18 million starting fee for Bent by the way. Going on the prices that EPL players go for, proven ones, Bent is worth that. Whether any player in the world is 'worth' millions is irrelevant. The point is, on the scale of the EPL, he is worth that money.

I think Hooper has great finishing ability. No idea how it's clear that he would score well in EPL based on what he does in SPL!

think of what Martin Oneill would have done with £24Million. i reckon he would get a good 3 or 4 signings.

Going by the amount of money in the premiership, it is probably the same as us spending £6m on Hartson if you look at the percentage of income spent on players.

On the other hand Diego Forlan failed miserably as well as Shevchenko and Hernan Crespo. Three of the best strikers I've seen in my lifetime.

Eduardo didn't score that often and neither does Van Persie for that matter because the league is to hard for his body to cope with.

It's a gamble with these guys, Darren Bent is not.
