Nir Bitton admits it was a 'real privilege' to captain Celtic against Real Betis.

The 30-year-old deputised for Callum McGregor with the Hoops skipper afforded a rare rest from the start.

Bitton has been at the Glasgow giants for almost a decade and he's developed a special affection for the Parkhead club.

The Israeli midfielder was delighted to lead the team out and he joked that he should get the armband on a regular basis after the Hoops recorded an impressive 3-2 win over the Spanish giants.

"One game, one win," Bitton laughed. "Just give me it.

"No, it was a real privilege for me. I was really honoured to captain this amazing club

It's just another milestone for me. I'm almost nine years here and I really love this club, everything about this club."

Celtic's excellent win against Betis came at a cost as they lost Albian Ajeti and star striker Kyogo Furuhashi to hamstring injuries.

Ange Postecoglou's side face a hectic festive schedule but Bitton insists players would much rather play games than train.

He added: "I think if you ask any footballer in the world what he would rather do, whether it's train all week or play three games in a week, everyone would say three games in a week," the Israel international said

It's a very busy schedule for us this month but we have to deal with it.

"We have a good squad with a lot of quality and we have to deal with everything that comes our way, whether it be injuries or suspensions, anything. We have to deal with everything and make sure we finish this month as strongly as possible."

"Our squad is good, our squad is strong, we believe in each other. We have a system which we try to work with every single day and even the guys who haven't played much since the beginning of the season came in and did an amazing job."

Really stepping up for us during this injury crisis. Hopefully keeps going in this manner throughout the winter period.

Was great today anchoring defence to attack ,1 slack pass from a flawless performance, can keep it simple and move it on ,can pick out long diagonals or a measured pass , would be nice to see some goals but playing well atm .

Being played to his strengths, rather than as a square peg smashed into a round hole undoubtedly helps... Absolutely not a perfect 10 in any area/skillset, but solid all round and in really good form.

Actually quite annoying to hear people pointing out his negatives, in the face of all the positive he's presenting at the moment. He also seems to be one who genuinely loves and appreciates being here, and who we are

Took that from his interview the other day aswell, total respect for the club...'everything about it' i believe were his words. Was all for punting him earlier in the season but happy to eat my words.

Much prefer McGregor in that role, he dictates the pace so much better look at the difference between United and today..

Bitton didn't really do anything wrong, its just McGregor is so so superior... I get he tried Turnbull as a false 9, but that didn't really work either..

See I think Bitton has been solid this season, but he's not ideal for games where we're struggling to score imo.

    Hopefully Hatate fixes that.

Thought he played well today, his composure marries well with passing out from the back consistently.

I think it meant to be read as a positive, to play a full 90+ and only 1 error is fkn excellent, and that he is playing so well that error became obvious.

He himself is playing quite well, but I still think our tempo as a whole is too slow when he plays that holding role, which is why I prefer McGregor there. Having said that for me he's still a better option than McCarthy in that position, from what I have seen so far.

I thought Nir was looking great again tonight. Deserves his starting place at the moment.

Strolled it again and was trying to make more things happen than CalMac and Turnbull from a deeper position than both

    Aye he played well..

Needs to sort his shooting out though..

Should've hit the target with that one second half and unlucky with the header first..
