I'd rather our players not get involved in this political nonsense tbh, I mean wasn't Stokesy slaughtered just for attending his friend funeral? Like I said clear agenda on here at times when it comes to what people defend and what they condemn.

    Is that translation genuine?
Why delete it if it's what he believes?

It's a pain in the * mate, We as celtic fans bring politics into paradise all the time and feel its our right, but our players better not pray and send messages of hope to their own.

I wouldn't mind it if there wasn't the double standards surrounding it, also considering we've been told on countless occasions that we can't bring politics into football.

He plays for Celtic, where a lot of people have deep sympathies for the Palestinian people, he must know that surely? The reaction he got is the reaction he deserves.

    It's disappointing but I don't really care.

He can support or believe in whatever he wants. As long as he gives 100% for Celtic than that'll do me.

When Biton was getting a bit of stick for serving in the Israeli army I stuck up for him, because he was in a very difficult position. These kids don't just turn round and say "no" to the Zionist Government. There are repercussions that affect a young man's family, and these aren't to be taken lightly.

He did what he had to do, and I understood it completely.

This is different in my opinion.

He's now a professional footballer with one of Britain's biggest clubs, and as such he should know the ramifications of his actions, especially on social media. He knows how our support in general feel about the Israeli/Palestinian situation, and regardless of whether he agrees with it he should be smart enough to understand it.

He can easily show support to any friends or family members in a private manner.

He's made a mistake (if it was actually him that posted it. Was it confirmed as his account?) doing this, and as such he'll have to face the repercussions of it.

As was mentioned, if a professional footballer posted support for a group such as the BNP they would get massive stick for it.

He'll have to live with it, as he was stupid enough to make his personal views known.

I'm against both sides, Hamas are the Palestinians worst enemy, they wont recognise Israel's right to be a free state, and they keep firing rockets what do they expect to happen giving Israel's track record? They must realise they are NEVER going to win.

Can I just say I lost a young family member to a terrorist attack by Hamas, their is no good or bad guys here, it's the reality of conflicts.

I hope one day Palestine and Israel can co-exist in peace.

    In a nutshell..

The stick he's getting now and will get because of it is ridiculous..
What's going on over there is terrible but an Israeli who served with there force wishing well on his other country men/friends and possibly/probably family is only to be expected surely..

If a Celtic player posted a pro-British army image on Twitter on Poppy day would you say the same?

I can be 100% against Israel and not be antisemitic. I have great admiration for the Jewish people, completely acknowledge the injustice and suffering they've undergone this last two millenia (much of at the hands of Europeans and none of it at the hands of the people of Palestine!), many of my intellectual heroes are of jewish background (e.g. Chomsky, who is one of Israel's fiercest critics or Erich Fromm who I had as my avatar for a long time).

Antisemitism has nothing to do with this, not least because the Arabs are a semitic people too.

It depends, if that player had served and had friends or family in it or involved in the conflict to some extent, then again that player, like biton , is entitled to it..

Whether i agree with it or not..

Yeah, but there would be a fair bit of anger and abuse aimed in their direction, right?

Biton is free to post what he wants on social media, but when you do that as a professional footballer in the spotlight to an extent you have to live with the results.

He'd have known fine well the reaction he'd get, so he'll be fine with it.

Great post, Dháibhí. If I can just stick up for him a little bit, though, if he has loved ones risking their lives in an organisation he was once a part of, I can't personally reproach him for wanting to show public support. I stress that I find the actions of the IDF at the behest of their political masters in Jerusalem and Washington as disgusting as you do and have done for many years. He absolutely should, as you say, be willing to face the consequences of his public show of support; but should those consequences really include abuse from Celtic fans? I don't see how that helps the people of Palestine.

Perhaps he could have said a prayer for the innocent Palestinians being massacred at the hands of the IDF. Something tells me that Israeli soldiers don't need *'s protection when they're looking down their sights at children.
