So Ange ran the players into the ground and that's why Rodgers can't get a tune out of them.

Aye right. Is Ange still picking the team and setting the tactics. Of course not if he was we wouldn't be behind in the league at this stage.

take it this is a joke???

I know a lot of fans would like one of the runners this is not one of the winners .

They will have to get a manager who will * off the board and need a big bag of money.

The only way we can get more money is to go to Switzerland and come back on a Jumbo with loaded with gold ingots.

Muscat achieved exactly this when he took over from Ange.

Yokohama were on a sharp decline (not too dissimilar to what we seen at the tail end of last season before Ange left) and were dropping back to being a mid-table team. Not only did Muscat stop the slide, he had them back competing for titles and later winning one plus a cup. He went on to be more successful than Ange over there though he had the advantage of inheriting his squad.

Not saying it's guranteed he'd have been the man as he still has a bit to prove managing outside of Japan but he was worth having a look at.

Not trying to say anything just thought it was an interesting insight and also coincided with what has happened to Ange teams in the past. Basically what I was saying is there is no guarantee,
if we went with Muscat just because he played a similar style of football that he would have been able to keep the levels up.

Rodgers is far from blameless in this, in fact I am suggesting he has let standards slip, alongside questionable recruitment and a failure to identify a system that gets the best out our players.

I would say I agreed more with Ange when he said for us to progress we had to be aggressive in the transfer market, e.g sell our players when the price is right but be looking to invest more in replacing them than we did to purchase them in the first place. Our board has never done that and seem to fail to realise our top players will likely only stay 2-3 seasons max and fail to plan for that.

Despite wasting about £18m in the summer our transfer business since Ange came in to present day, stands at approx £69m spent vs £76m brought back in so a profit of £7m. Even with conservative estimates you could expect to be able to sell Hatate, Abada, CCV and O’Riley for more than £40m considerably more if CCV and Hatate can prove their fitness and if Abada goes out on loan first and does well.

However as we saw in the summer our replacements are all £4m and under and bought in bulk. Jota’s fee alone after Benfica’s cut should have been used to bring in 3 players of sufficient quality and used Ajeti and Barkas alongside Jota’s wage to fund that side of those deals.

We signed 9 players to cover 3 positions with that money and left Goalkeeper and left back uncovered.

To me January was as pure an example of incompetence, stubbornness and infighting you will see. Poor targets identified (recruitment team), Manager won’t take them out of principle (stubbornness) and Corporate level taking the huff so no one really signed.

I guess to bring it back to this thread I think Rodgers should be doing better but I also think any of the managers on the list above struggle without significant changes to how our football operations are run unless we get a manager who takes control of everything at a club and there aren’t many out there now e.g. another Ange.

On that list most of them are head coaches who would work with a Director of Football or Sporting Director that would handle recruitment, sport science, academy etc, all the things we need. They come in here to what they would face your looking at another Ronny Delia situation for me. Even
Rodgers the first time brought a big staff with him this time there’s barely been anyone.

Never realy thought about MON due to the fact that I'd rather look forward that back.

But just as Rodgers was exactly the wrong manager at the time, MON could be exactly the right manager for this time.

He would lift all the players that Rodgers has put down and generate a lot of energy and excitement about the place.

    I'd be happy with that.

Trouble is though, as they said in that vid..BR is on £3m a year x 3 years.. so would cost £6m to pay off and they won't even pay £6m for a player so...good times ahead lol

Cost us £6m to get rid, £60m to keep, more when you add in the decline in players sell on vallue. I know which I'd rather do.

But then I couldn't give a * about saving the huns to preserve the old firm *

Loved MON, but the game has moved on, nothing to suggest he'd be able to get a response from this group..

Hartson is a good Celtic man, but an awful pundit too.

Just can’t get enough Depeche mode
Could put him on Gardening leave and chances are after 6 months he’d be bored shitless and want another job and then settle his contract.

    * me.

Our rivals must be creaming themselves hearing MON's name being dragged out the hat as a possible replacement.

Rodgers is not without blame. But for me the real issues we have are all in the lap of Dermot Desmond, Peter Lawwell etc on the board. They are the ones for me who need to go.

We're talking about somebody who could come in for a few games and lift the players.

I think we all agree that despite the transfer windows we still have the better squad, we just need someone who can get the best out of them so we can have the better team. MON would be an ideal choice.
He would have an effect similar to Lenny when he stepped in the first time.

But he wouldn't be a long term solution, just as Lenny shouldn't have been.

This is not the Celtic legends team playing for the Masters tournament up at Braehead, mate. It's a league to be won and £60m worth of CL money in the pot. We need proven quality in the dugout, not a man who couldn't cut it at Forest nearly five years ago and hasn't been seen since.
