The latter. The reason we had few managers was because we usually chose the right man for the job.

I think when the last manager was hounded and a celtic man playing the celtic way was brought with some pipedream of making an impact in Europe in we lost sight of reality. The reality is that European football is a bonus and we do not really have the resources to do a lot there. Its all about the SPL. What we need to do is get the best SPL-experienced manager of the old hard boiled variety. When you are staring at Rangers going for 3 in a row next year then we need to forget all fancy ambitions and just focus of getting a guy who can make players play well in SPL type games. I mean by that the Leviens, Hughes of the world. Not some visionary types with fancy ideas. The list should not comprise people with Celtic connections. Actually I think it is better if they dont have seroius Celtic background because they will not be sucked into the Celtic way/beautiful football mythology which I think has been the downfall of several Celtic managers. All the guys who have won the title for us in the last 22 years were practical managers who knew its a simple game and that SPL physicality has to be matched and had the balls to ignore the fans who are an unrealistic lot much of the time- Wim, MON and WGS. All the guys with fancy ideas and a tendancy to focus on investing on attacking players but not the defence -Burns, Barnes, Mogga- failed. What does my fckin head is YET AGAIN people are producing candidate lists full of nothings who just happen to have Celtic connections. Some people are slow learners. Time to move on from that backwards mentality.

I think that the fact we have so many season ticket holders who are paying the same or more each season than when we had better players is a factor. When it was pay at the gate, fans could just vote with their feet by not turning up and not spending their hard earned money but now it doesn't matter as much as we pay the money up front so a lot of people wan't value for money.
Also a lot of the players from previous era's mixed with the fans so people were more tolerant. The wages these guys are on now has also become a barrier between the players and the fans as most people don't make in a year what the modern footballer earns in a week.

you dont have to pick from a list of mangerial nothings just because they are (all but Billic) Celtic connected. That is pretty close to job discrimination IMO. Why limit us to the above. We have an entire world of managers to pick from.

bit uncalled for id say :50:

What i want is for the fans to back the team we have theres nothing we can do about it until the transfer window..

what would a diffrent manager do for us in these last few games?

and i agree you do have the right.. but i think if the players when at parkhead could see that were 100% ehind them it may lift there game

how can u play with confidence in yourself if the fans you play for have none in you

    stop moaning :) :celt_2:

The right sort of managerial type IMO. Would have been interesting to see how he would do with resources. Dundee United sold all their best players in ever window or two so IMO he did very well to do what he did and get to a couple of cup finals and a UEFA spot. He did very well at Hearts too. I dont think anyone could have done more there. At Leicester the club was in meltdown when he arrived so I dont think he had much change there either. Like Mogga he has an eye for a good player but unlike Mogga, I think he is far more tactically aware and gets players to run through walls for him. I am pretty sure the board bottled considering him though because he wouldnt have been a popular choice among a lot of fans. The idea that Levein would have been great for us is just one of those things I feel in my gut. He has the mental toughness that most successful Scottish managers have.

Levein is a safe pair of hands as a manager.. The right man for Scotland at the right time to make them stuffy and hard to beat again IMO.. He's never really had a job with great expectancy and he's never really achieved anything either.. He's only ever had money to spend at Leicester and he wasted most of that on SPL crap that eventually got him sacked.. I'd say similar to Strachan he's a good man manager , good organiser , always keeping players spirits up when they are out of form etc , but wouldn't think he'd be that good as a Celtic manager where he'd be stepping into the unknown in terms of pressure (again like Strachan did) but in a defensive capacity he'd maybe be worth his weight in gold to any club.. If the job ever became a two man job and one was a defensive coach then Levein would be a great shout for that role..

How about someone who has managed the top 4 in the Premiership- Claudio Ranieri or Gerard Houllier?

I'm undecided at this moment in time. I'll see how the season pans out, team performance, results etc...
But I will be supporting TM and the Bhoys to the hilt until this season is over!

The football is pretty under Mowbray but the results are ugly. Its like getting a lumber when on the lash, you're with a munter and feeling warm inside as you stagger home but wake up feeling used and begging for a change.

at the end of the day we all act differently when it comes to supporting , some fans will back any manager whos in charge of our club no matter how good or bad a position were in , others will at times if things arent going so well begin to dislike the way a manager goes about his buisness and will voice their opinion and tbh they DO have that right as supporters , but there is know doubt in my mind that boths sets of fans positive or negative will still cheer on the bhoys no matter what team is put out , were ALL celtic supporters no better or worse than the next one , we all show our love for the club but we just do it in different ways :)
