Neil Lennon is expected to be appointed as interim Celtic manager this afternoon with talks at an advanced stage.

And he will be given the option of being in charge of the team for the trip to face Hearts at Tynecastle on Wednesday night.

Lennon left Hibs last month after being suspended by the club's board and he's now set to complete a whirlwind return to Celtic Park.

The Hoops legend first took charge of Celtic nine years ago when he replaced Tony Mowbray as caretaker until the end of the season.


And he's set for a baptism of fire at a ground where Celtic have struggled over the years, including a 1-0 defeat earlier this season.

It had been expected that John Kennedy would take charge of the game on Wednesday before Lennon took over at the weekend but it now looks likely the Northern Irishman will be in charge for the trip to the capital.

And he'll be back in Edinburgh on Saturday when the Hoops face Hibs in the Scottish Cup.

Neil Lennon has arrived at Lennoxtown for talks over a return to Celtic.

Peter Lawwell arrived shortly before him and Lennon is set to complete a sensational return this afternoon.

It’s been a whirlwind day for the club after they agreed to let Brendan Rodgers speak to Leicester City this morning.

The Northern Irishman is set to take charge of the Premier League outfit and be replaced by his countryman at Celtic Park.

His first two games Hearts and Hibs.

Know what? I'm * excited as * for some pure fire again.

 

Only a man like Lennon would be willing to come in steady the club within hours of being called. I pity him for having to face the snakes in the board that ruined his wonder team that faced Barcelona and won.

 

lennon right in at the deep end with the fixtures we have , he wouldn't have it any other way.

 

Every cloud and all that

 

Knows the club inside out and can set out a team to defend. Struggled for me finding good attacking players which we now have.

 

I love Lenny and that's the only thing that would make this alright.

 

Nah. Commons was a stormer of a signing, as was Hooper.

 

Hope he doesn't change the system or the style of play for the remaining games, we're playing really well just now obviously he'll need to get the players minds focused after Rodgers leaving so suddenly but on the pitch domestically we've been great since the turn of the year, get through the next two games and then we actually have a mid week off for once so everybody can collect themselves after whats happened.

Many peoplemight bemoan the fact that Rodgers was far superior than Lennon tactically and that Lennon is a worse manager.

Well, Lennon pretty much tactically schooled Rodgers in almost every game we played v his Hibs team.

So much so that Rodgers spathis dummy oot becayse he couldnt get McGinn.
