Unfortunately that's what Desmond relies on. If he believes that Lennon can do better next season and that 75 - 80% of ST holders will renew even if Lennon stays, then he'll do what he wants.

It's an individual decision whether to renew and I respect that.

However, if I'm honest, if people renew STs before anything about Lennon is confirmed (or even if they know he is staying) and we are * next season - I'm not interested in hearing or reading any of their complaints.

You can't have it both ways - renewing STs empowers Desmond - if people choose to do it, then they are accepting the consequences.

Well said! I'm fed up with people complaining about something they have caused by their impetuous and stupid actions. I stopped putting money in the club when they stopped reinvesting the profits of player sales into the team as Lawwell publicly claimed to do. I'm not gonna be fooled by that * and every other fan withsome sense shouldn't either.

Signing players for next season...is that an indication that he's here for next season. After reading Bartley comments, "11 players vs 11 players", fear inducing that he will be allowed any rebuild for the years ahead.

NEIL LENNON says he understands why some Celtic supporters want him sacked, after conceding that the ‘Holy Grail’ of ten-in-a-row was non-negotiable for many of them.

The Celtic manager has faced protests at the stadium and the training ground calling for him to be relieved of his duties over the course of the past few months, as the club have watched their dreams of a tenth consecutive title fall by the wayside.

When asked if retaining the Premiership title was a prerequisite for him to keep him in his job, Lennon said: “I don’t think it’s unfair or unrealistic but we have had mitigating circumstances throughout the course of the campaign, some of which I can’t divulge publicly.

“But I’ve never shied away from the fact that it’s been massively disappointing and we could and should have performed better. That’s on me, my staff and the football department as well.

“The ten was the Holy Grail, really, and it may be beyond us but we won’t give it up just yet.”

While accepting culpability for Celtic’s poor season, Lennon says there is perhaps nothing he could do to convince some fans he is the right man for the job.

“I have to prove myself every day,” he said. “I’ve had to prove myself ever since I walked through the door for that second time. It’s been like pushing water uphill, trying to convince some people.

“But without trophies, we haven’t had a good season this year. If that’s enough for people to want me out, that’s fine – I can take that and understand it.

“What I want from the end of the season, though, is for us to win games for the last couple of months. I want a really strong finish, to let the players blossom, play their football, enjoy what they’re doing and see where that takes us.

“I don’t know [if I’ll ever convince some people] but that’s the nature of the job: it’s not a popularity contest. It’s about playing good football and winning, bringing players to the club, developing them and selling them on, which is what I’ve done over the piece.”

It's hardly a Mea Culpa is it? "That’s on me, my staff and the football department as well." - Yes but as at all football clubs, the buck stops with the manager.

"we have had mitigating circumstances throughout the course of the campaign, some of which I can’t divulge publicly." I'm sorry but just * off - either explain what you are talking about or don't mention it at all. Otherwise it just sounds like making excuses and/or looking for sympathy.

He is right to say that many fans didn't want him back (I was one). However, like 99% of those fans, had he delivered - I would gladly have eaten humble pie and admitted I was wrong. He basically says that some fans just want him out on a personal basis regardless of results. Perhaps 1% of Celtic fans are that driven by their feelings about the manager but 99% are not.

A lot of fans don't particularly like the manager of their club but, if the results and the performances are good, they'll be right behind them.

Lennon needs to face up to the fact that he's done a * job (he had a lot of luck in 3 cup finals - particularly the one against the Huns - that make his tenure look better than it is). However, this season it's all turned to * and he has been exposed as being out of his depth.

That's the first time I recall him saying anything about possibly being out at the end of the season. It sounds as if he hasn't been told anything yet either.

I do have some sympathy with him on that one - the board are treating him and us with contempt.

He should divulge those "mitigating circumstances". After all, it's his own * he has to cover. I think he's hinting at player revolts since last summer. Given that he's blasted individuals for wanting away, he might as well reveal everything.

At least there's at least been a wee bit of acknowledgement that he shoulders some of the blame, and that fans want him gone. It's a start I suppose.

Obviously I want change as much as anyone, but he's getting the season so I think it best for the banners and twitter badges etc stop until then. And if we don't get the change needed as soon as the season ends, then we ramp the pressure right up. For now though, am content to let him play it put, and support the team on match day. Nothing more than that.

If what happened with the young player Liam Morrison is true that should be grounds for sacking alone. Unprofessional *

Being a * manager isn’t a mitigating circumstance, not working on tactics isn’t a mitigating circumstance, buying dross isn’t a mitigating circumstance, continuing to play players that are finished isn’t a mitigating circumstance, taking the team on holiday during a pandemic isn’t a mitigating circumstance.

That should have been mentioned in the interim report- any extreme financial trouble would be a great excuse for penny-pinching by the board.

So apparently NL didn't know who he was until Bayern showed interest. There was a meeting arranged between Liam his dad and NL to discuss his future. NL never bothered his * to show up. No wonder the young players are all leaving

Mitigating circumstances he can’t divulge. Either divulge them or don’t mention them at all. It just looks like he’s making more excuses.

Absolutely. That's school ground behaviour. I know a secret but I'm not telling you. Pathetic. Does the club no favours yet again, but opening a can of worms, totally unnecessary.

Hearing that the mitigating circumstances were the closure of the hospitality industry, and in particular the closure of Tennents on Byres Road

    Guys at it.
About 6 months behind everyone else, at least.

Mitigating circumstances that he can't go in to - also known as you're a * * manager Lennon (to say the least).

"Prove myself every day" - didn't he tell us all a week or two ago that he has nothing to prove?

"Holt grail" - didn't he spout * last month that he didn't consider the season to be that important?

"Understand why some want him out" - again, he's argued against that all * season.

He's all over the shop and is literally saying whatever it is he thinks needs to be said to keep him in a job.for so long he believed if he just closed his eyes it would all work out.
    Too late.

Don't believe for one moment he remotely understands what the situation is or how the fans feel.
    He's completely removed from reality.
